Any progress on my old tub?

I’ve been pretty focused on wrapping this one up. Aric just bought his daughter a car and spent 3 weeks out west so he isn’t been real motivated to work on it. I should be getting to putting it together once the 72 leaves to be assembled.

For the last month, I’ve been wading through a lot of details and a few small setbacks. I’m planning on one more wiring cleanup day before I call it finished.

Once my punch list is complete, it goes on the trailer to have the front clip, doors and hardtop installed. Crossing my fingers that we’ll be able to take it for a decent road test before the salt flies.

That is one fine looking 40, its scary to put that on the road.

Thank you for the kind words. I never intended for it to turn out this nice. It just spiraled out of control.
@dlzadl (my dad) and I are not very good at keeping each other in check.

Today’s focus was on wrapping up the brake plumbing. Started by making a bracket for the City Racer prop valve and moved to the majority of the hard lines. This evening or tomorrow, I’ll finish flaring lines and make the long axle line and brakes are plumbed.

I wanted to use the OEM fuel gauge sender but it was not meant to be. Apparently a few other Mudders plus some of they hotrod guys have had issues with their Dakota Digital gauges talking to the fuel sender. After a few attempts I threw in the towel and ordered a Classic Industries 0-90ohm sender. The Dakota recognized it immediately. I did have to open up the mounting holes on the sender and use the Toyota gasket. I have the original wiring intact and plugged into the Dakota via the original dash plug.

After a week long push wrapping up wiring/plumbing and lots of small details, the 72 is out of here. I found out that one of the reman calipers is bad but once the exhaust is finished, it’ll be dialed in and ready for the shakedowns. Just in time for the salt to fly.....

After spending a week in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I am now back in cruiser mode.

We have now went to the dark side. The Holley Sniper system was on the wishlist since it popped up on the radar. Paired with Vintage Air AC and FJ60 ignition, the Sniper will be a huge upgrade. With the engine bay still accessible, now is the time.

For those that are looking at a Sniper and Dakota Digital, Dakota offers a BIM interface that allows info (temp, fuel pressure, etc)to be shared with the Dakota Dash.

In some of the previous threads, others have run into where to put the extra senders, this will eliminate that issue. Plus after the Sniper touchscreen isn’t needed, the info will still be available through the dash.

We are rounding the corner on completing the rest of the body panels. The only part of the truck that hasn’t been addressed were the rear doors. We cleaned them out the best that we could but still could hear rust rattling around. After opening them up, blowing them out, treating with rust converter and then coated with POR, these should last for a long time.

I am having the adaptor plate built from scratch for the Holley Sniper. While that is being done, I have been doing some work with Baloo.

Happy Thanksgiving, Mud. We are making progress with the small and not so small details. The fiberglass top is moving forward as is the steering wheel. I also received my legend shirt from @cruisergear , hopefully they draw my name for the 40.

Today I made a trip over to Summit Racing to pick up the parts necessary for the fuel injection install.

I will be running mostly hardline to the Sniper so a small fortune in AN fitting is required. After scouring countless sniper threads, the LS regulator was mentioned and I will be using one downstream of the pump to eliminate the return being in the engine compartment. The return port will be plugged on the Sniper.

This morning, I spent some time organizing parts and developing a game plan for crawling out of the rabbit hole and wrapping this build up. Our paint shop is kind enough to let me use their shop space as winter is here. I am starting to test fit the weather stripping and parts for the front end. As usual, the mounting holes will need to be enlarged after paint.

I thought of doing the same thing.
How much coin did you drop?

Looks spendy and nice!

Not quite sure yet, we are supposed to pick up Monday and should find out. We also had a fuel pump block off and throttle cable bracket made out of stainless.
