So I just spent the last two days reading though your whole thread again and I can't say enough how good everything looks! I'm very impressed that you've been able to keep this thing going with 3 kids and a wife. I've been working on mine but have fallen off updating which I need to get better about. After seeing your 40 I'm ready for a full day of work on mine tomorrow!

Keep up the good work!

Josh

Thanks, Josh. I appreciate the kind words. Our family is fortunate enough for me to stay home with the kids full time. I don’t get the time to hunt and fish as much as I used to so I use this as an outlet. I am partnered with my dad on this one and the painters are a step above or it wouldn’t have been done to this level. I took a small break from the 72 to get my dad’s 69 back on the road in time for spring and summer. 40s have turned into somewhat of an obsession.

As usual, very nice work. I hope to never have to park my 40 beside yours, it would make mine look like a bucket of garbage!

Creeping forward on the front clip. After blasting, it was apparent the hood needed a lot of work. Luckily we had a donor hood from one of the previous parts trucks that gave up the pass side corner. The center support was removed to hammer some of the dents on the top side. Bonus is that more of the 40 is rust free and covered in Epoxy primer.

We have also elected to swap in a matching new OEM driver side fender to match the passenger side. There is a lot of difference on the inner fender between the new replacements and the original early 70s fender.

Time for a quick update. We completely missed the June deadline. Maybe it’ll be ready for June of 2020. That’s a nice round number.

When I picked up the transmission tunnel last month, the paint decided that it didn’t want to stick to the underside and bubbled. This set me back a few weeks on getting the tunnel and fuel tank installed. I have it back now and am battling the small details. We are making a 4 week push to get the 40 to the body shop for the remainder of the body panels to be installed. Fingers crossed.

This morning, I installed the SOR tunnel gasket and a layer of Dynamat to dampen the drivetrain noise. I’ve got to grab some washers to take up some transfer linkage slop and it will be bolted down for the last time.

Roll bar is installed, seat belts need to be sourced.

We also had the unnecessary ports removed from the breather. A few hours and the engine will be complete. I need to run a fuel line from the tank and it’ll be ready to fire.

Thanks, would you mind snapping a pic? I think I’m going to cut mine under the seat and make them adjustable.
I am out of town. But when I get home I will.

Mine didn't touch the floor.

Looks great!!!

Lots of small tasks to do. This morning I installed the turn signal indicators, accelerator pedal and cable, transfer case shifter outer and inner boots, and finalized the speedo plug install.

I was also pleasantly surprised to receive pics of the hood and fenders in paint. Our hood was pretty trashed and required a lot of work.
