I have a F engine and some of the other hardware you might need. Yours if you can pick it up.

Thanks for the offer, the drivetrain is complete. We installed a 2F from an FJ60 and a 4speed/transfer from a 76ish FJ40. I’ll keep my ears open for anyone needing an F engine.

After going round after round unsuccessfully with the machine shop, we decided to hit the easy button and order the Redline (thanks @RLMS ) adaptor for the sniper install.

The test fit was successful. I should be able to put some real time into it next week. Currently at the drawing board for the air cleaner adaptor. I haven't seen too many being installed with the F air cleaner.

The Redline intake adaptor sits proud to clear the head and exhaust. There isn’t a lot of room for an air cleaner adaptor. I found some air cleaner spacers at Summit that fit the 5-1/8” Sniper. The 1” spacer clears the hold down tab but didn’t allow the F air cleaner to sit in the right position. I ended up using a 1/2” spacer and will have a tab inside of the 3” tubing for the air cleaner to clamp to. It’s roughly done, now time for some cleanup, finish welding and a little paint.

I will be using 304 stainless for the exhaust. Summit also came through with the correct flange to connect to the headers.

The air cleaner adaptor with the 1/2” spacer was pretty close to the intake on the unit itself. We decided to mill the Redline adaptor and use the 1” spacer. It looks much better and won’t be as restrictive. Also peeled the fuel pump off, replaced it with a 3FE block off plate and played with some NiCopp fuel line. I had to call it a day as need to get a 45* fitting for the sniper inlet to clear the rear air horn.

There isn’t a lot of space for fuel lines between the F air cleaner and the Sniper. I tried a 45* -6AN but it was too long, the 90* swiveling adaptor was just right. The fuel line on the engine is complete, the regulator and pump are where they are going to be mounted. A few more hours of plumbing and wiring and we should be ready to fire it up. The old alternator has also been swapped for a reman.

Today I made a trip over to Summit Racing to pick up the parts necessary for the fuel injection install.

I will be running mostly hardline to the Sniper so a small fortune in AN fitting is required. After scouring countless sniper threads, the LS regulator was mentioned and I will be using one downstream of the pump to eliminate the return being in the engine compartment. The return port will be plugged on the Sniper.

How do you wire the LS regulator? Does the LS regulator need to communicate with the Holley Sniper?

It doesn’t need any wiring as it’s just a filter/regulator. No communication with the sniper necessary.

Awesome. Have you figured out the throttle cable for the Sniper?

Thanks, White Stripe.

This morning I was able to get the engine side of the AC mocked up. Have to do a little more trimming to clear the radiator shroud.

The kit leaves alot to be desired and uses standard hardware. I am going to be replacing with JIS. I also have to work out belt routing and alignment as the compressor and alternator bracket is close but not great.

Where did the A/C Condenser bracket come from? Was it part of the Vintage Air kit?

I fired up the Sniper last week and was amazed at how fast it started and how well it idled. I have to make some minor adjustments and to burp the coolant but needed to get the throttle cable squared away first.

The stock throttle cable was too long. I ended up cutting the crimp end off the threaded end and shortening the outer cover. Then reinstalled and crimped with the vice. The lokar cable end fits great and allows for full swing of the bell crank. The 40 has a new neighbor in the shop too.

Nice, looked like you won’t be bored soon.👍

This past summer I saw 4, all of them on Mayfield Road between Chesterland and Mayfield Hts.
I am also in Akron Ohio. I remember the old yellow mustard FJ40 in Tallmadge driving around in the mid 90's . I asked the old man if he ever wanted to sell it , but he did not and was going to stay in the family. I had a white 1978 in the 2000s and now i am back in the game with 1976 model. So us few in NE should get together for a lunch and a beer . I would be in for that.

There are a lot more here in NE Ohio than before. 60s and 40s. And more coming soon! We should all show up at the next cars and coffee at Summit Racing. And then go for lunch and a beer.
