OK, Oink 55 has entered the Pig hospital for a facelift. One thing I want to do mechanically is work on the PS. PO (actually 2 POs ago I think) installed a 3 bolt Saginaw box. Besides being a 3 bolt (lame) it is kinda "catchy" when turning the wheel. Also this Pig has the turning radius of a Peterbuilt. Or worse. Is this normal? I mean to the point I have to back in to parking spots at the store because it won't swing in to a spot without a 3 point attempt.
So I'm interested in going back to stock-type 55 PS. Oddly I can't find anything on IH8MUD on doing this. I believe some of the lesser Cruisers (60s?) have a similar high mounted power steering box that can be adapted? Thoughts? The other reason to go to stock type PS is so I can fix the front crossmember which was "notched" to clear the Saginaw. By "notched" I mean largely removed.
