OK, Oink 55 has entered the Pig hospital for a facelift. One thing I want to do mechanically is work on the PS. PO (actually 2 POs ago I think) installed a 3 bolt Saginaw box. Besides being a 3 bolt (lame) it is kinda "catchy" when turning the wheel. Also this Pig has the turning radius of a Peterbuilt. Or worse. Is this normal? I mean to the point I have to back in to parking spots at the store because it won't swing in to a spot without a 3 point attempt.

So I'm interested in going back to stock-type 55 PS. Oddly I can't find anything on IH8MUD on doing this. I believe some of the lesser Cruisers (60s?) have a similar high mounted power steering box that can be adapted? Thoughts? The other reason to go to stock type PS is so I can fix the front crossmember which was "notched" to clear the Saginaw. By "notched" I mean largely removed. 😖

I like the 60 series PS, have it on the Pig and 40.

Link in my sig…
Nice batch-O-articles! That will help. I don't care about the all-Toyota issue, so would drive my PS box off the GM PS pump anyway.
Does yours have the horrid turning radius issue?

78 bronco. It's bigger than any sag or Toyota and my turn radius is awesome. I had a astrovan box before and I could not turn as well.

....also cheaper than the other options.

Did that get any love in your build thread? Don’t recall seeing it :hmm:

Ya let me dig thru

Page 27 when I mention I bought it. It's actually 77-78 bronco. It was $300 reman on rockauto and no core charge. Your sag pitman will probably fit on it. Jmack posted a link on the next page that shows it in comparison to the others.

$302 on rockauto and it actually is not a reman. It is 3 bolts but they are huge. I used Ford Big Block head bolts to mount it to the frame.

Eric,

I’ll bring my Pig to your house this Sunday and let you drive it to try my Scout PS. Scout boxes are getting rare and pricy so likely not route you want to go but at least get something to compare your current solution against. My frame was not cut at all and looks OEM’ish.

Deal!

Man, gotta love that "Patina"
All the expense you went to in order to louver your hood, Ron. You could have just bought that one.

I have two current write ups using 60/80 boxes on Pigs. It’s a very straight forward process and eliminates the push/pull drag link that hits the tires

is that red/white chop top going to the scrap or getting savd?

Hobbs, you said you have a sagenaw already so the extra links have been removed already?
