I'm part way through converting the old Homegrown to a 27.5 gravel bike. I may go with drop bars, I may not. As it sits, it's right at 20 lbs.

Cheers!

Nice! I've got a similar HG but in blue. Looks like a fixie. Thought about converting mine to a gravel but may take my old steel roadie to convert.
I don't ride fixed (especially in the rocks), but I do ride SS. The HG was converted to 27.5 running 34:20. The Sycip is a 27.5 with Gates Carbon belt drive running 42:26 and the Zorro is currently 27.5 running 32:20. Lots of climbing where I ride.

Sweet - nice setup.

Do I get an award for the most boring bike in this thread? Kona Dr. Dew, chromoly steel frame and fork, hydraulic disks, GRX 170mm crankset with 40t Wolftooth ring, 10-51t rear cassette w/ Deore 12-spd derailleur. Came with WTB i23 wheels and I went tubeless, running a Specialized Pathfinder Pro up front and WTB Venture in the rear, both 650bx47mm.

I also went with a Whisky carbon seatpost and some Ergon saddle, added the rear Axiom rack (and removed the rear fender), RaceFace Chester pedals. Getting a Redshift Shockstop stem next week, 110mm +/- 6* (love this, used my old 80mm Redshift stem but it's too short).

Like Cruisers, this thing's a pig at 29lb, but it rides beautifully and handles pavement, dirt, gravel, mild singletrack, shopping trips quite well. After rides of 20-25miles, I have zero discomfort - which makes me want to ride more!

Well after 11 years on my Kona process: 3 drivetrains, 2 sets of wheels, 3 forks, 2 shocks, 3 sets of pivot bearings, 8-9sets of tires, and 8-10 chains I got a new daily driver MTB. Specialized stumpy EVO expert, half off this weekend at my LBS. I put flat pedals on the Kona and will still use it as a camping bike and dirt jumper, possibly lift served park as well. Rode the EVO the last 2 days and man it fast (on the flat and up that is) compared to the Kona.

There’s a small a few of us here who walk the [vintage ATB -> commuter] path. Far and few between though.

Late 90's Trek 7000 (Yeti green w/yellow fenders) on it's 4th paint job...my winter commuter as it's got Continental Top Contact winter tires mounted, they're too soft for riding if it's above 50 deg. F.

@Owyhee Jackass I love the full coverage yellow fenders. Great winter bike!

@NearJetties What Panaracers are on there? I have Pasela TGs in 1.5” width, but yours look wider.

My only bike at the moment is this 1984 Trek 850 I’ve posted before. I sold my Miyata 1000 as it was a hair too big, and my Surly Ogre got stolen.

I’m a sucker for a lugged steel frame, Reynolds 531 in this case. Mostly a mix of nerdy niche Japanese parts: matched Shimano Deerhead derailleurs, Sakae triple crankset, MKS Sylvan pedals & toe clips, Araya rims (I’d like to get a set of Ukai rims at some point), Tanaka fenders, Nitto dirt drop stem, Dia Compe canti brakes. The bars or Soma Oxfords with Shimano bar end shifters. My partner hand knitted the top tube protector. Obviously the Brooks is not Japanese 🤷‍♂️

Hauling Toyota parts to get shipped out of course!

😍 coordinates perfectly with your 60

I’ve had Paselas before and then Compass Bon Jon pass (now Rene Herse, made for them by Panaracer). These Panaracers Gravel King I’m running are almost as supple as the Bon Jon pass, are the same size and a lot less $.

Those look great. I might have to try a set on the next go around. I’ve not tried the Rene Herse tires, mainly because of the price, but they do look nice.

I had a great experience with the Rene Herse but definitely wanted something more budget friendly. I commuted in them for a long time (~12miles a day) in DC and surprisingly never had a flat or durability issues even as a Clydesdale.

The Schwalbe Marathons I had on a Long Haul Trucker years ago were like that. I probably put 4000 miles on them by the time I sold that bike. Not a single flat.

They and the gravelkings are like clouds compared to the Schwalbe tires I’ve ridden. Did a ton of gravel on them too
