I live in Boise Idaho, and I am getting ready to give my 88' FJ62 w/ 213k miles some tender loving care

-front axle rebuild, shocks, brakes
-transmission fluid change and a new filter (shifts rough into 2, sometimes takes forever to shift into 3rd)
-checking out a leak from the transfer case as well

I am looking for recommendations for where to find quality, affordable parts. doesn't have to be OEM though id they are reasonable that would be preferred.

Where have you had good luck?

What Alex said, go OEM whenever possible. Closest place for all that stuff is going to be Kurt at @cruiseroutfit (Cruiser Outfitters) in Utah. Ring him up and he will get you everything you need.

X2 Cruiseroutfitters
X2 on OEM, they don't have enough sense to quite working, (Per the Cruiser Whisper)

Agree OEM, even on the smallest items, will save you a ton of grief. Also, you can order online through your local Toyota dealer and pretty much beat any prices out there online. Dealers all do about 30% off if order online and delivery to their parts dept is usually a couple days.

Like everyone else has said, OEM is the only way to go. If OEM isn't available do some research to find the best solution. Personally, I live by the philosophy of "do it right the first time." Saves a ton of money in the long run, I hate doing the same job twice.

Also, don’t let anyone touch your rig. Do it all yourself - or you’ll pay someone and then do it all yourself anyway!

Sounds like you could start on that shifting trouble with a look into adjusting or replacing the throttle kick down cable. Your description sounds quite familiar, and I found that mine was broken. Bought a new OEM one online. After installing and adjusting, with new fluid she was moving like a prodded hippo once more! HA!

You can find some good, inexpensive Denso parts (OEM supplier) at www.rockauto.com, but try to stick with dealer/OEM stuff, or Denso brands.

Re the OEM or bust. Remember our knuckle kits feature parts from manufactures such as NOK & Koyo (same supplier as Toyota), our brake parts are either OEM or Advics/Aisin, again same supplier as Toyota. So technically our parts are in fact OEM to Toyota as they are the original exact manufacture in many cases.

That said I'll challenge you to have a problem with our knuckle parts or brake components :D

If you're dying to have OEM, we stock plethora of those parts too including all of the parts to build an OEM knuckle kit but at the added cost for zero difference, you choose.

Checked out the trans fluid level this weekend. it was over the hot level by almost double and the engine was cool. Could the over-full fluid be causing the shifting trouble?
-side note: fluid was clean and red

62's are extremely finicky when to comes to transmission fluid levels, in my experience. Go by what the FSM (Factory Service Manual) staes regarding fluid levels.
