Running first. I’m not sure the owner wants much more than that at first but it’s going to take quite a bit of work to do that properly.

I have a desmog Jim C carb on the shelf.

Planning on testing the compression before I tear it all down. If it’s showing solid numbers I’m going to strip it to the long block and build it back up with new parts.

Probably needs a clutch. Front tie rod ends are gone. There is no ebrake.

It could balloon on her quickly. I’m not sure that’s what she wants to happen.
Right on. Agree that it can get out of hand fast, it sucks that these rust out so bad. Frame and C's looked good from what you showed.

This thing is a mess. I sure hope some of these accessories can be reused.

Good of you to take this on so that the woman may have a functional Cruiser in the near future. At the shop where @cruiserinsanity works an old woman brought in an '84 Toyota truck, just a basic truck that was purchased new by her mother. She was having difficulty finding a shop to work on it. but the guys at Eagle Imports sorted it out now she's back to driving the truck her mother had.

I just let her know the ballpark this is going to cost. I told her I would not spend the money on this particular 60 due to the large series of unknowns and knowns. The hole in the roof and the inner fender under the leaking roof being the biggest unknowns.

I see $10,000 to get it running a driving and that’s not touching the 32 year old suspension, tires and brakes.

This has been in her life for a long time so they may decide to press forward.

She’s going to discuss it with her son this weekend. I’ll keep working because is she decides to punt I’ll just work my labor into whatever she wants for the truck.

I’ve seen some pretty nice 60s coming up lately that might be a better choice than putting the required money into this one.

Toyota is required by law to honor the recall. If it's an open recall for that VIN, they are required to provide you with a new tank.
First thing I did October ‘20 after acquisition of my 6/85. Was stunned it was still open. No questions asked at local KC dealer.

Nolan-good karma heading your way. Enjoy following all your adventures-Happy New Year.

Just got off a 3-way call with her and her son and they decided to punt. I’m glad they did. I offered them a fair parts truck price. Waiting to find out if they accept.

My 60 has an open case for a new tank. No toyota dealership near me will touch it. Some lame excuse about not having correct (nla) hoses. Closest one that will do it is out of state in Oregon.
The hose is fuel line. I bought a six foot section and laid it beside the fuel can in the back when I dropped off Buster Brown years ago. The “technician” was near the service advisor when I got the call about not having all the right parts and that the truck would have to sit at the dealership until they figured something out for the hoses. Politely, I notified them about the hose in the back seat near my home made firecracker. It’s an easy work around. Computers!

Bummer, was hoping you'd get the green light. With that frame someone could harvest most of it I would think.
She has not gotten back to me on a price but for someone wanting a DIY project it’s pretty solid
