Following this build... Nice find and GREAT Price!! Good Luck with the build!

New rear tub came in from Land Cruiser Heaven. It did have a little damage from shipping but nothing that will be a problem to straighten out.

Eastwood makes aerosol wand-type rustproofing products, or just shoot a bunch of aerosol Lithium grease into those channels. If you drive it in the winter, you'll have to vigilant every Spring about checking for rust there (and everywhere else).

If you drive it in Illinois winters you'll have salt/rust popping out everywhere...

the stuff from Eastwood isn't all that.* I used it on the inside of my frame and ended up having to redo most of it. For the frame, get it dipped in galvanize coating. For the inside of panels, a really good rust converter then etching it with phosphate will make it pretty much immune to rust since the phosphate will create a tough barrier. You can also do the frame in the same manner, it's messy but it's really inexpensive.

*All the eastwood stuff is is epoxy primer that's been thinned even more. The issue is it doesn't adhere that well to what it's sprayed on - the only fix for that is to use a huge amount of spray. That's expensive, and worse it's nearly impossible to clean off what it gets on.... what that means is your driveway will be splotchy green until the Apocalypse.
You could make your own epoxy primer, but it is NOT a safe material. If you do, thin, fill the area with primer (or pour and spin the part), then let it dry while it's spinning.... or do the same thing with phosphate at 10% of the cost.... and none of the environmental damage

I would only use a grease-based rustproofing material - not a hard coating. When I was a kid in Michigan, the only parts of our cars not rusting through or snapping in half, were those covered in a layer of grease, inside and out.

Yep, no matter how much undercoating or epoxy primer and paint I use, seems cracks form at seams. I've used Schotz guns w nozzles, POR15 then picked up the frame w excavator to tilt it, and after a few years the dust of rust begins to appear. Until I tried this on underside.

the last step, before subjecting the finished project to abuse of winter and rain should be something oily that penetrates.

Spent more time sandblasting and painting the back half of the 40 frame over the weekend. I ran out of time so I was only able to get the back done. I am happy to get paint on it and get it sealed up. The front still needs some more work but it is getting there. I painted it with POR-15. Looks really good for the age of the metal.

We also got our rear tub from Land Cruiser Heaven in the past month, bet they were on the same boat together! I'll enjoy following your build, we're both at a similar stage. Race ya to the first drive! ;)

Looking great Brian, excellent work so far. Nice score on $150 FJ40!! Can't wait to see the finished product. Subscribed
