Thanks Lou,

You wouldn't believe the amount of crap underneath the stock plastic flares and body moulding. I like the look of the LX moulding I think it adds a lot but I am glad I pulled them off. One thing that actually surprised me was that the the body moulding did a lot to quiet down the doors. If you rapped the outside of the door with the moulding on and then after I pulled it off the door sounded very tinny. The line-x helped with this a lot.

Right now I am doing the tuffy console and it isn't an exact match but I think it will work out ok. It is a tight fit and there really isn't much margin for error to get it to fit right and be able to fold the backseats, use the cup holders, etc.

Ryan, this looks great...

Western Flyer,

Definitely check under that rack! The rest of my LX is spotless, but under those rack feet you can see the mess they left. If I didn't pull it off and waited until it started to show signs it would have been too late.

The Slee harness is a nice addition when you do it, are you upgrading to the high output bulbs too?

Ryan

Thanks Ryan,

Yep, I need to get on that rack. My 80 is rust free, but so was my Tundra until a leaky windshield seal let in some water. The rust killed the value.

I have a full set of HIR bulbs now, plus a set of 100W high beam bulbs (in their boxes). I will try to get the Slee harness installed this weekend (while my daughter naps). I will start with the HIR bulbs, then try the 100W bulbs to compare (though the HIR highs crank decent light now). I am really not impressed with the light from my low beams currently, even with the HIR bulbs (sans harness). We will see if the harness helps the lows enough to make them acceptable. I have used various high-output halogen bulbs before, often with short lifespans, so I am contemplating the whole DEPO HID mod.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon,

Those Depo's really do look great, and it looks like they put out a lot of light. I am going to just stay wih the upgraded bulbs and then probably add an LED light bar wired into my high beams.

I love the Wagongear tailgate mod! Looks great!

That looks great Ryan. My Wagongear tailgate lid should be here in a few days. I just showed the "boss" the pictures of yours. Her comment was "why does it open from the bottom..."

Lol, I think that is a really common question and a lot of people have it, so much so that Kevin has even posted it as a FAQ.

He did it so it provides a "table" when it is open. It is pretty slick. Packing might be a challenge. I will need to rearrange some things. I have a big snatch rope that is wound pretty tight it will need to be uncoiled and rewrapped so it fits. But I love having stuff like that with me all the time and not taking up any space!

EGR system

I just want to warn people to check out their EGR system well. I had a P0402 that would come up off and on, and I did EGR replacement, pulled the TB and cleaned it, etc one thing I didn't do was pull the vacuum hose off of the intake pass through and clean that vacuum port. It was completely clogged and I had to do the drill bit method. But it made a HUGE difference!!

For the first 1000 miles of driving I averaged 10.6mpg. I know these trucks get terrible mileage but I was mostly stock. So I ordered new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. This helped and for the next almost 900 miles I averaged 11.5mpg. Well I didn't want to jump to conclusions, but after 2 tanks of gas with that vacuum port clean I am averaging 14.7mpg. It is another reason I would love to pull the whole EGR mess.

Which vacuum port is this? You just drilled it out with a drill? Interesting find

THIS IS NOT MY PICTURE STOLEN FROM ANOTHER POST ON MUD

I didn't drill it, but I used a small drill bit and spun it in my fingers, it was the only thing getting the carbon build up out of the intake. I originally tried a paperclip, but it just packed it harder. I also replaced the vacuum hose.

Cool thanks. I'm gonna check mine out next time.

Did you pull the vacuum hose off the bottom of the intake manifold, too? I believe that the small tube just goes straight through from the top of the intake to the bottom and there is another vacuum hose port on the bottom.

If you don't pull off the bottom hose, you're probably just packing the carbon down into the lower hose...

Yep pulled both hoses, off the intake, it is just a straight pass through, you can bypass it with a section of vacuum hose, which might be smarter since it would be a lot easier to replace.

Thanks!

Really great build, love how that LineX turned out!

Nice, thanks!

Did you pull the throttle body off to do it? I just glanced in there the other day and didn't see much of a way to get in there to pull the lower hose off. Just have to do it by feel, eh?

I have to pull my throttle body off to replace the VSV, anyway...I'm sure the bottom hose is easier to get to then...
