Let's swap a motor and do some other stuff to a 60.... (2 Viewers)

Glad you tagged me. Great thread. The Scheel-Mann in my 60 are so unreal. Glad you and Lockwood are addicted to them and I took the leap

Also, I’m unhappy with Lokar cables. My FJ80 has the smoothest pedal. I’m wanting to try an 80 pedal and OEM cable. Thanks again for the motivation

I have a feeling this truck will get Scheelmanns and they will be SPECTACULAR......I promise :)

How's the height of them in the 60? Any pics?

I'd probably have a custom cable built before going with a Lokar.....always a disappointment. This pedal and cable setup is really smooth....the 1HZ throttle stuff is really nice. Helps when it's all new too.

I’m 5’8” and they are great once in the seat. The side bolster takes getting used to. I have White Knuckle 15* sliders so I use them and a A pillar OEM handle I installed long ago to go up and over versus sliding in like a normal 60 seat.

I just did a 1750 mile trip in it. Total and complete game changer and I had new SOR foam in my 60 seats.

💯💥

So a taller back but the base height looks the same as stock. Not bad. This truck won't be a long distance truck so I'm not sure I'd want to put these in.....but I have this idea of how I want them to be. I'd think about maybe doing a smaller headrest too. Something custom. We'll see.

There is NOTHING like putting the miles on while in a set of Scheelmanns. My camper has one and with those flat door panel on the 79 I can run both an inner and outer armrest.....it's hard to explain how good that is for seating position and comfort. Love it. I'm going to try and do a ventilated set of these seats in the future.....that will be the ultimate :)

Thanks for the pics!

Another solid day today.....a lot got done. Radiator and shroud finished up today....some trimming on the shroud but nothing major. We cut out Champions nutserts and used our own hardware. Shroud fits on like Toyota designed it to fit. Cleaned it and gave it a quick coat of black paint today....we'll powder coat it down the road when the radiator and intercooler come out for ceramic coating. I'd like to drive the truck around before we do all the coatings...make sure we don't need to make any changes.

Got into the AC setup today.....ordered up the fittings we need. I've been buying all my stuff thru coldhose.com. These guys have it all. Hopefully I got all the right fittings so we can start making lines tomorrow. If it all goes in the way I want it to, it should be really clean.

We use this cool top plate from them for the Denso compressor......makes things really easy to hook up.

Having a headlight quandary......not sure if I want to go with these super cool gen 1 Trucklite LEDs I have had squirreled away. I have them on my HZJ73 and I really like them although the bull bar kind of blocks a lot of their light output. I think the optics of this light are pretty precise.....bull bar uprights aren't so good for them.

These aren't as offensive to me as some of the other LED lights out there. I don't want it to look modern.

Here they are on the 73......they look pretty cool.

The other option would be the Koito(on the right) with a high dollar LED bulb. I'm running LEDs in some of my reflector light trucks and they are very good when aimed properly. Lots of light. Need to get this trucks face on....getting tired of looking at this mug.

Mounted the fuel filter in an unusual place.....I hope it works out. Due to the strut for the hood lift and the vacuum reservoir, I couldn't shove the filter in the back corner like I wanted to without a really complex and ugly bracket. The filter has a water drain on the bottom so it sits pretty tall which made it tough to fit more forward on the fender area....so we're sticking it all the way forward on the rad support. Easy to access for changes, easy to drain, out of the way. Should keep the fuel lines in and out nice and clean too :)

We will run both the fuel line in this area as well as the vacuum reservoir line.....nice a clean.

Koito x10000
Kinda what I'm thinking too. Not sure how an LED bulb will work in them....they have a shield in front of the bulb. Easy to swap in and out so no big deal. I had the upgraded headlight harness on this truck but gutted all that out.

I FINALLY have an almost put together interior.....still some stuff apart in the back back but the front is back to the way it was before I took it all apart in December. Love this interior.

And the icing on the cake.....

I did a test with a bunch of normal H4 bulbs then added some plain cheap LED from Stark.

Zero direction. Like all.

I’d rather squint at night than look at LED designed housings In a 40/55/60

That said, those you have are the least offensive I’ve seen

I've been messing with bulbs and lights for far too long. I remember way back when I first move to Tampa around 97 I was doing headlight upgrades on H1 Hummers with a company's HID retrofit kit. They were like $1500 for the pair and we sold a ton of them. I figured out how the company supplying them was sourcing their HID components......they were using OEM Hella stuff. Turns out the guys in the body shop at the dealership where I worked gladly traded beer for broken headlights from high end BMWs, Audis and Porsches...they had no idea why I wanted them. Lol. I bet I had the very first FJ40 with a set of HIDs in it....in fact I probably guarantee it was the first. Probably blinding everyone. They were magnificent off road. Out powered whatever dumb halogen off-road lights I had at the time. They may still be in the old girl. That Hella D1S stuff was bulletproof.

I HATE led lights on these old trucks......they just look awful in my opinion. Great light output but I can't deal with the look.

I'll probably run them....maybe with the grill and bezels on it will look good. We'll see. I plan to drive this truck at night...kind of would like decent lights. I'm spoiled with my other stuff.....they all have really good lights. Maybe not the 45LV....got to stay true to that trucks looks :)

This is a good sign....that's 5 gallons of diesel :)

Another day of getting a lot of little stuff buttoned up. Got our PSC Motorsports fittings and hose to make the high pressure line. These guys sell a 16 and 17mm to 6AN fitting for the factory steering box....and on this application we use a 17mm on the 1HZ power steering pump(I think it's a 17mm on the pump). Makes for a really easy setup. I have had these on my other trucks for a while with zero issues. Field serviceable too which is nice.

Made up the return hose as well as the low pressure line to the cooler. Aeroquip pushlock hose on 90 degree 6AN push lock fittings. Nice setup. Passed thru the hole on the frame perfectly....

We secured this setup to a bracket we modified on our injection pump. Not as secure as I hoped but I don't think it's going to go anywhere.

I got really worried about hanging all this junk off the brass T on the block. Next one I'll do differently I think.....found a couple better fittings that they use on Hondas. I had to pull the starter today and it cleared the pressure sensor line without an issue.

Nice fit and it's out of the way.

Had a pretty special pair of cars in the shop today.... 2 AMG GT Black Series cars. These are incredible machines....pretty much a full tilt race car with an interior. Completely different from a regular AMG GTR which is a pretty aggressive car. Flat plane crank 4 liter twin turbo motor, specifically built for this car, pumping out 720HP. Simply amazing.

We tried to start the 60 tonight....fluids in, fuel in, couldn't get enough battery to it though. We'll wire up the starting circuit on Monday AM so we can start this truck and start the final bit of finishing it. Hope to be pulling it out of the shop under its own power next week :)
