Let's swap a motor and do some other stuff to a 60.... (1 Viewer)

Started on cleaning up our wiring today on the driver's side today. Same thing we did on the passenger side.....looming everything and running it the inner fenders. Not really removing too much...just taping thins up that we're not going to use(headlight washer, etc.). We had to add a wire for the starter trigger since it's on the right side now. One battery cable will get run to the drivers's side obviously. Grouped the sending unit stuff for the factory gauges as well. We'll do a stand alone harness for the extra gauges we are adding.

Pretty standard stuff on this side

Couple of grounds need to go in tomorrow and then we're going to fire this sucker up. Probably should connect the turbo to the manifold inlet too.

Installed a CityRacer rear good to cowl weatherstrip. Nice piece.

Ran into a slight snag on my AC lines....this fitting is not an M22x1.5. It's a M22x1.75(at least I think). That is not a fitting you can find so we will have one made out of our old low side line so we can attach that to our #10 hose going to the compressor. Problem solved.

I had to do office work today so very little time with the truck but there wasn't much to do for me.....wiring got buttoned up and it's 90% done. Need to work on the tach and my gauge setup. Not a huge deal.

Started with this 1HZ harness.....

reduced it down to this for our sensor harness. I think the IP pump connection is on this one too. You have to look to see wires on this motor. I've got a master tech that builds harnesses that are beautiful :)

This stuff came in. Like I said.....I was short on pics today so not much interesting.

The only thing I did today....cleaned up the 2F water temp sensor that threaded right in to the 1HZ head. Easy.

Oh.....well there was one other thing I did....turned the key :)

Did some tidying up in the engine compartment today, finalized hose routing(really just shortened a couple hose), secured some wiring and added a larger cable from the alternator to the battery. Topped off fluids and checked for leaks and drover her out....

Really digging how clean the inner fenders are....exactly what I had in mind when I started this project. Going to have my ceramic coating installer coat this engine with ceramic so I can see how it holds up....might help keep that light grey Raptor clean :)

Probably could clean things up a little in this area but for now, we'll do our shakedown and change things later if we feel like it.

Tried to hook up my LED headlights today.....foiled by switching grounds. I'm sure there are some modules to take care of it. Strange because I have LEDs on my Troopy and HZJ73 with no issues. Just a straight plug and play. Maybe they had modules on them already or something.

60 series definitely have an odd glitch with LEDs. City Racer sends a fix when you buy them for a 60
My wiring master was explaining it to me but it is far beyond my pay level. Once he mentions "reversing polarity", I fixate on some clamp or some bolt or something far less important. Much like my time in college :)

He was saying something about Mazdas having similar wiring setups.

Found the modules on Amazon :)

Very excited about this piece of the puzzle....will take some work to get it in as there is a brain box, small pushbutton toggles(to go thru the various pages) and of course a harness which will go out to the sensors we have installed. On this build I'll run boost, EGT, oil pressure, water temp, voltage and most likely outside air temp. There are so many things you can do with this system....we keep it pretty basic.

We use these gauges in my other trucks.....never have done a green one though. Will be perfect in the 60. And how about that mount??? Had that printed up so the display will just snap into the ashtray opening. Pretty slick if I do say so myself.

Maybe I'll put this into a kit if people are interested in them. It's a great way to monitor things without gauges all over the place. We also set audible warnings for things like max engine temp and max EGT.

79 #1 on a very cold morning(well cold for a Floridian). Pretty cool that it has a little snowflake.....must come on at 32. Usually it's a cloud.

You’re the only other person I’ve heard inquire about ceramic coating an engine bay:clap:
We have been using ceramics for a long time on our high end cars....typically exterior but we do a lot of interior packages. My guy has a spray on ceramic product(HVLP spray gun) that we always talk about doing the motors/chassis on these ultra clean new build trucks but never get around to it. This one will get done. I think for the off road crowd(bikes, UTVs, etc.) it would be a huge benefit. This coating is much more industrial than the shiny type ceramics for the exteriors of polished paints. Not quite the shine or slickness but huge durability. He's been experimenting with shoes, handbags, etc....he's even got a couple of my new fishing reels that I want him to test it on.

We'll do this truck, I'll make sure to follow up on it for all 2 of us interested in it. Ha. :)

This is SLICK.

really slick.

I feel bad because we really underutilize these computers....you can do so much with them but as I said, all I really care about is boost, EGT, water temp(if I notice a fluctuation in the factory gauge) and maybe oil pressure/voltage. On one of my trucks we have it set up to read MPH which is nice because it's a KPH dash speedo....that one also has an odometer. My brain still struggles with KPH to MPH or KMs to miles so it's nice to make it simple.

Very cool gauge!! Does it work with a 24v system? I could see putting this in my HJ61.

Excellent! Is this something you sell as a kit or would I need to go to the original vendor? Currently running ISSPRO gauges in a custom bracket to the right of my hvac controls.

Makes sense....didn't even think about them having just the end when I looked at their hoses on their site. I got mine sorted out pretty easily.....

Going to start with FJ60 kits since I have that one figured out......doing one for a 62 wouldn't be an issue I don't think. I can supply all the parts.
