Nice work.
The engine stand looks a bit weak for a fully assembled 1F.

It’s handled 2-3 iterations of F/2F fine so far. I’m gentle with it ;).

Hindsight I’d go for the 2ton folding stand...not just for the extra strength but more compact stowing too.

Like the grommet idea. Learned something today!! Thanks for sharing.

Between last night and this afternoon I got the transfer case reassembled...had dissambled, cleaned, blasted and clear coated a while back.

Most of the assembly was uneventful aside from setting the preload. Took way way more shim then I anticipated or what came out. The shim I removed was .20mm and it took two .30mm shims (.60mm total) to get preload to 15 inch pounds at the output shaft. Cross verified with a fish scale and got 9.3ish lbs. Was a PITA working my way up from .20 to .60 in .05mm increments...geez. Seemed like a lot of shim, but I guess preload is preload, right?

Also struggled getting the speedo driven gear out of its housing. Finally got it out without totally destroying it and then learned a PO had swapped in a 6x18 driven gear but kept the 6x17 drive gear. Teeth were all jacked for sure...got a correct driven gear on order.

I enjoyed reassembling the vacuum shifter pod...neat mechanism with all it’s small parts.

Got started on my J30 transmission reassembly tonight. Parts laid out and installed the reverse idler gear. 56 needle bearings down...110 to go! The Assemblee Goo I’m using works really good on those dang needles!

You are awesome! I hope to go down this road some day. Excited to hear how it shifts after the rebuild

My hope is that it shifts like it should and I don’t screw it up! This is my first Toyota trans rebuild. I did a sm465 a few month ago and so far, dealing with the J30 gears is so much easier compared the gigantic Muncie ones!

Crazy how simple these transmissions are.

Your Very Good @ " laying all your Parts out " for " TEq Nikon Time " ;)

Didn’t have much time tonight but did get 96 needles installed in the counter shaft and bearing pressed onto the front input shaft. Then spent some patience cutting a left over piece of the pilot bearing off the end of the input shaft.

Struggled with the front input shaft needle bearings...the last one didn’t want to ‘snap’ into place. Is there a technique to this? Should I remove that snap ring and push vs snap the last one in? @65swb45 for expert guidance!!

Was able to get the last needle roller to ‘snap’ in. Required a bit of constant pressure with a brass drift for leverage.

Also got the input shaft and output shaft with gears installed. Replaced the old 2nd and 3rd gear synchros with some NOS ones! Plan to finish this and mate with the tcase tomorrow!

Chip chip chipping away at the driveline. The trans and tcase are close to done...just need a couple seals for the trans top cover. They are the same as the one on the top cover for the tcase.

Also spent a good portion of the day painting small parts...which doing so in the cold weather is challenging.

A couple weeks ago I decided to sell the oem steelies I had purchased and replace them with cityracer 16” steelies. They came in Thursday and tires got dropped off yesterday. Went with 235/85r16s in Yokohama MTs.

Installed my Coolerman main harness and chassis harness (had him make it with no terminals to save some funds) this AM and started adding terminals. Crazy how freaking perfect the harness lays and breaks off through body pass through, etc. Super professional stuff that Mark puts out!

Also ‘fabbed’ (term used very loosely!) a bracket for the Geo Metro booster. I ended up using square tube vs round for the spacer...firstly b/c it was all I had on hand...but it ended up working perfect. I mounted the spacer 45* off compare to vertical and it allowed me to easily get a socket on both the inside bolts to the firewall and the booster nuts. Pictures explain it better...

Rib clearance is .5 **** hair...almost too close. I’ll use some bath tub underlayment as a gasket on both ends and that will give me another 1/8” spacing.

Been a bit under the weather with food poisoning but managed to plug away at a few items. Mounted refreshed oem rear reflectors, new emblems and tail lights mounted with @65swb45 brackets. I was able to polish the reflectors with some McGuire’s plastix polish and they show some decent clarity...in comparison to before.

Plugging away at wiring...almost done with the cowl harness, just need to tidy up a couple bits here and there. Cleaned up the instrument cluster and had to swap in another amp meter from a spare cluster I had.

The glass pieces cleaned up great with some McGuire’s compound and polish. Also redid/made the cluster harness...didn’t have the exact wire color combos on hand so made notes for future reference.

argh, so beautiful! Wish I could make progress on my 40. Keep it up man, you are zooming along!

Bent and flared the engine bay portion of the rear brake lines. Went ahead and did this one now before mounting the engine so I wouldn’t have to work around it.

Next up is to assemble the bottom end of the block!
