earlier in your build, you said you were saving up for a Dissent rear bumper. but with the Bellfab interior tire bracket, is the Dissent no longer on the table? in the Bellfab thread you stated the dual swingout on your 100 drove you nuts. since you've had both a swingout tire carrier and the interior bracket, i was wondering on your updated thought process and feedback as i'm jumping to 315's on my next set of tires and stock location won't work.

So i’d still like a dissent rear, but my plan is to run it without swingouts. i like that it’s modular, so if things change and I do need a swingout, It’s a simple thing to add

Been mostly doing other stuff lately... you could say I've been working on myself rather than the cruiser. Lot's of riding bikes, been hitting the gym hard, eating horribly boring food... but I've lost a ton of weight and feeling good!

New rack came in today, for those that ride bikes you know that 1upUSA is the Toyota of the bike rack world. I've had the 1x for almost a decade now and it's still going strong. No fiber reinforced plastic to fall apart in the sun, just made in the USA of aluminum that probably came from china. These come in a 1x and a 2x option, each has the ability to bolt on two more trays. This means that the 1x base can have a max of 3 bikes, and the 2x base can have a max of 4 bikes. Now I need to find more friends to ride bikes with :)

Yeah, I swapped orange anodized parts onto it :grinpimp:

Nice! Did you decide on stock switch or individually selectable?
Current plan is stock switch. I’ve got it in hand and the pigtail. Haven’t fiddled with it yet to see how i’ll wire it, but i imagine i’ll need to add two relays to make it work.

using the VO switch would be a lot easier…

in addition to a relay for each locker (which i believe the kit comes with), you'll need an additional relay to trigger the dash lights. that's what my research tells me

but even if you do go w/ your aux switch panel, you have to keep the magic dial in the dash so you can point and says "see, triple locked" :D

I am still terminally single, but my land cruiser is pretty cool:

Nitro 4.88’s are at Ayer’s machine shop in Phx getting the REM treatment per Zuk’s recommendation

Double Detroit auto lockers??????

Edit: Went back a few posts. Looks like them’s those electric lockers that unlock every time you switch directions.

Yeah, but air lines in the desert turn into their own nightmare that I’d rather not deal with. Also, some seal horror stories that i want no part of…

the gear whisperer himself says no air lockers, who am I to argue: ARB sucks air - http://www.gearinstalls.com/arb.htm

Not too many offer selectable lockers. Eaton is the only aftermarket e-locker I can think of. ARB and TJM are two I can think of that offer air actuated lockers.

How does the desert exert more punishment to air lines than rock crawling, deep mud, and super cold temps and being bogged out in ice holes and waist deep snow. Mine have seen all this since 2010 plus some desert action on the Mojave road and Johnson Valley twice. I’m seriously curious as to your explanation.

Ozone attack of rubber.
More heat = more ozone = more attack.

Am i being nitpicky? Yes. Do i fight vacuum leaks and issues with the other stuff? Also Yes. Does arizona desert destroy everything rubber? Also yes.

i’ve fought with air actuation with other vehicles and I just didn’t want the headache. I prefer electron wrangling 🤠

@TomEf is the guy who can explain it better than me, and say if i’m full of sheet or not 😂

Maybe yes, maybe no. Here's what I know:

Ozone loves to attack olefinic double bonds, which exist in large numbers in a lot of common rubbers and not at all in a lot of other common rubbers. Natural rubber, nitrile, delrin, neoprene, LDPE? Definitely gonna get degraded by ozone. Silicone, PTFE, PU, CPVC, EPDM, basically any fluorocarbon, HDPE, and some other more exotic ones will be somewhere between totally fine forever and fine for [probably] decades.

Some quick and dirty looking up ground level ozone concentration by climate/region is kinda inconclusive. Most sources attribute ozone production at ground level to pollution, where NOx compounds and VOC's react. Heat/sunlight will always make reactions like this more kinetically favorable, but I have no idea how the combination of desert climates, atmospheric emissions in urban vs suburban vs rural environments, etc. will shake out when it comes to actual concentration of ozone under your hood or under your vehicle. It looks like a lot of the environmental sampling stations will record ozone concentrations, which you could correlate with some ASTM D1171 testing but that sounds like a lot of work for not getting paid.

Cleaning up all the parts while the 3rds are getting gear + eatons installed. Looks like the inner ring of the outer bearing spun on the spindle.

Two new spindles (P/N 43401-60081) are on their way from the UAE. These new ones should have the updated spindle bushing with the integrated needle roller bearing

Slapped this recovery point on from a vendor that shall not be named (Oh look, more powder coat flaking off....TT...)

I coated it in some Steelit (if you guys don't know this stuff yet, it's great). Surface should be prepped at a minimum with some 36 grit sand paper.

My Double Cardan shaft from Tom Woods arrived today as well. Those guys are FAST. I ordered this on Thursday morning last week, arrived FedEx on Sunday (today).
