I love your 80 man. One of your older posts from a few years ago inspired me to get one as well. I remember you saying you don't need more than a 2-3" lift and 35s to basically do most trails with one but now that I see your thread, aren't those 37s and way more than a 2-3" lift? I love the looks but man these trucks are such pigs I can't imagine how they drive on the streets with a tire that big, are you happy with yours? I'm not going above 35" on mine. All the trails are 500-1000 miles away so I have alot of road driving.

37s are fine on the road if you have it geared correctly.
Lots of guy’s running them.

The new norm are 40s 🤷‍♂️

Thanks man. I absolutely do not need 37s :) The wheeling I do, I would be plenty happy on 35's. My lift is still only 3" :grinpimp:

If I had to do that many miles and planned on doing it regularly, I would probably have 35's (and a 200 ) but as @Broski said... 37's are the new 35's!!!

Once I get gears installed it'll be a lot more comfy to drive

The 97 officially qualifies as a Historic Vehicle under AZ 28-2484. For those out of the loop, Arizona is known for our Copper and Historic Vehicles get special license plates that are made from Arizona mined copper :) My new plate is in the mail and should be here this week. Here's what they look like:

Some bits I never addressed:
- Escape Gear dash Protector in Charcoal PolyCotton. This thing has been great, it's faded in the 4 or so years I've had it but I would definitely recommend. Protects my dash from the nasty UV here in phx.

I love my Escape Gear dash pad in my 80. Helps keep the dash protected from future cracking.

Slowly getting ready to do gears and lockers. Just ordered the parts for the yota front and rear locker switch:

82998-12170Terminal, Repair With Wire4$ 29.68Yota Locker Switch - Terminated splice (need 3)
90980-10631Housing Connector1$ 5.66Yota Locker switch - male plug (accepts terminated splice^)
84725-60020Switch1$ 51.75Yota Locker switch - RR / FR

Will confirm these are correct when they arrive.
nice. i plan on doing the same thing. already have the switch in the dash as a constant reminder :D. and in case it goes NLA

hoping you document how you wire them up; all the way from the axles to the switch. the part i'm missing is a good path to run the diy harness from the axle connector into the cab.

The only thing I don't like about my OEM lockers is the switch ! It won't let you use just the front locker.
If I was going after market lockers I would not use the OEM switch 🤷‍♂️

No kidding, how often are you only engaging the front?

I use front only a lot when I'm in the snow, or when I'm on a really twisty trail with low traction.

That's a tough call.. I do love how clean the setup is with an OEM switch. I personally ran that exact setup for a long time in my 100 and got up 99% of stuff with just the rear locker. But I do more medium difficulty/long distance trails rather than the more technical loop trails you find in Moab, etc. But yeah if you're doing technical crawling I'd probably go separate switches.

Snow I could see too. We don't have any good snow wheeling around here because it's either dry desert or closed for snowmobiles only in winter.

Reversing up a snowy trail is probably the primary use case for front only when I wheel. Locked rear is almost impossible to steer and open/ open doesn't have enough traction.

But to your point, it depends on what you do. I have selectable front and rear on independent switching and now I want cutting brakes and the ability to front dig. The list never ends.

I guess it depends on the condition of the snow. This is in my neighborhood this last winter haha. Took a while to dig out. We had so much snow that the plows couldn't make it for 2 days

Big difference between playing in the snow and having to drive in the snow.

Picked up a set of ARK Splash Guards this week. These are pretty slick, simple to install and has more coverage. I did have to trim a tad for the BP-51 reservoir hose, but no big deal. These were about a wash price wise compared to replacing with OEM.
