Was looking at that. With tire width ur probably right. I picked up steel on way home for mine. And will be dropping off part to a buddy to see if he can retap the end on his lathe

Sent from my phone using IH8MUD

Certainly could be my offset/width too...forgot about that. The OEM one is inset though. It's an easy piece to fab....not really anything crazy. Or just buy that 75 series like 1978HJ45s...

Up to our eyeballs in wiring on the project now....maybe, just maybe there is light at the end of this tunnel. Looks like the gauge cluster is pretty much squared away...we were able to set the 24V 79 series gauges to the 12v 80s series sending units...all gauges function as they should. Speedo was a swap out(kind of), tach was a combo of the 79 and the 80....we will probably have to calibrate that once we're up and running. We messed around with some of the lighting too....got it very nice and uniform across the gauges.

I ended up buying a cowl wiring harness from a diesel mine truck that we'll part a few things out of that we desperately need(mainly connectors)....because the 80 series instrument cluster has a lot going on with it, my tech is going to feed the 79 series cluster with the 80 series inputs. We're working on breaking down the 80 series cluster so we can make a nice piggyback type harness between the 2. Should work out pretty well. Hopefully.

Going to add some of the dash indicator lights to various parts of the 79's instrument bezel where there aren't switches...started with the CEL light....others to follow. I'm sectioning out pieces of the 80 series warning lights. The 79 series gauge has 5 or 6 openings for warning lights.....not going to cover all the ones I need on the 80 series. I might end up having to make a few custom ones up to fit(80 series icons are bit big for the 79 series openings).

Harnesses are pretty much run in the front of the truck, need to work on the cab and then run things out back......very tedious work to get everything just right. I also decided to use all OEM Toyota plugs so that makes things a little more challenging....

This would not be an issue if you owned a 2H powered 75 Series. I can determine average speed by watching the number of drivers that give me the "finger" as they pass me. The more obscene gestures I see the slower I am going. :D

We were able to fire the truck up on Friday....nice to finally hear it run. We wanted to make sure everything ran and did what it was supposed to with the gauges...now we can go about removing unnecessary wiring from the loom(hopefully a test drive in there at some point too). Truck sounded OK....exhaust is a little odd sounding though. Thinking that I might have to change it around. In all fairness, I need to hear it under load and out of the shop...things sound a lot louder inside. I'm hoping it will sound better outside.

No real issues other than the floorboard under the cat got REALLY hot...like 180-ish and that was at idle. We made a nice heat shield today for it. I ordered some Lizard Skin heat control stuff for it as well....2 things I didn't want...heat and noise. Right now I have both. I think between the Lizard Skin and the heat shield, we should be in business. I bought some foil lined foam insulation for the roof as well...gets pretty good reviews in the hot rod world. We'll give that a go under the headliner.

Finished up the spare tire holder....cool shot of the horn. Need to get a video of the truck running.....

Yeah, always a relief when they fire off for the first time.....I had only briefly heard this motor run when I first got the truck with open headers....not much to go by.

We're going to run it again today to see how much heat we were able to cut out with our heat shield. Hoping for about 40 degrees. I think with air flow over the exhaust(when moving), the Lizard Skin(supposedly 20-30 degree reduction) and our new heat shields, we should be in the game. I bought the Sound Control Lizard Skin as well.....figured I might as well go all the way if I'm going to do it....reduce some noise and some heat.

Nice spare wheel bracket, will you lock it? Please tell me that's not actually your spare wheel? :-0

That horn is the nuts, I want one! :)

It's my spare and it will be locked.....for sure.

Really loud and I'm not sure a 17yo would even like it. lol.

I'm running a high flow cat and a big Magnaflow straight thru muffler...30" long or something (but relatively small...maybe 9" diameter). It's loud and it sounds pretty uncool....so I need to figure out my Plan B. I should have done it the way I originally planned....make my own muffler for it. I have a TON of room on the drivers side under the bed so I may end up routing the exhaust(as it dumps out of the muffler, back around and put a resonator up under the truck ion the drivers side....then I can route it back to the tail pipe. Pretty sure a resonator would tone it down. Maybe repack the muffler...one of my subs was at the shop today and says that he opened a Magnaflow, removed the exhaust packing and used some kind of really dense sound deadener.

We build so many cool exhausts for so many cars...I can't believe I didn't get my own exhaust right! Granted most of the ones we build for customers are meant to be loud....I can guarantee one thing....my exhaust flows.

Forgot you were using those wheels on the truck, sorry. I don't want to offend you but have you considered a better looking steel wheel?

Ha.....I love my wheels. I've had silver steel Tacoma wheels on it, aluminum 4Runner wheels on it but once I bolted one of these on to test it, I was in love. They're EXACTLY what I consider perfect for that truck....my opinion of course. Maybe one day the 4Runner wheels will go on it...they look kind of good on it but for now, steel wheels.

I was thinking the classic Sunraysia steel wheel like these....

I like the simple look of the steel wheel....I've had OEM steel wheels on every Cruiser I've owned. They're beautiful in my eyes.....aftermarket wheels belong on Jeeps.

These 4Runner wheels weren't bad...

The strongest and best looking steel rim for the 75/79 series would be the oem gx 80/105 series steelies which are a 16x8.

To quiet down your 1fz your could always slap a turbo on the side instead of adding in another muffler ;)

Yup - I put a polished EMS Powered exhaust on my '94 FZJ, high flow cat and similar Magnaflow. It was ridiculous w/o the resonator, still pretty loud with it :-(. Bigger problem with mine was it's the early A442F which doesn't kick down like the later A343F at highway speeds (read drone). I sound proofed the crap out of it, the only thing that made a major difference was the resonator. Sounds like a good plan on re-baffling the muffler -
