This stuff was going on across the shop....intense. Each day we're getting fewer and fewer wires in the 80's harness which is a good thing.

I haven't been debriefed yet on what was accomplished but I think that the wiring for the warning lights were all done up today, the wipers and turn signals from the 79 column were all integrated and probably a dozen other things were figured out. It's beyond tedious work...can't wait to see it all working sitting behind the wheel of this thing.

We're on a major roll with the truck...lights are working, gauges are working, pretty much everything we need to work, works. We need to sort out the intermittent setting for the wipers....we have off, low, high, no intermittent(from the 79 series stalk)....80 had the selectable intermittent wipers. Rear harness is done, front harness needs a couple connectors and a new fusible link then it's done. Then we continue on with the AC setup....still some questions there. The complexity of simplifying the complex 80 series systems is a challenge but we'll get it. Should have some VERY cool warning lights for the 79 cluster. I'm talking REALLY cool. Each build I do(personal or customer) has one detail item that is my favorite(of course the whole build is usually my favorite)....I think these indicator lights will be my favorite.

Seats got back from having the seat heaters installed. I spent more than a few minutes testing them....they're going to be nice. Dog seems to think the seats are mounted in the truck and has already picked out her spot.

Drilled the fenders for the front flares(really hurts to drill this truck)...flares go to paint tomorrow so we can pop those on for good.

We ran the truck tonight after work....we wanted to check how our Lizard Skin ceramic insulation performed. I would give it a 11 out of 10. We saw floorboard temps at maybe 85 degrees. Incredible. We saw temps in the 150s-170s on bare metal floor boards with only a stainless heat shield over the cat. We installed the Lizard Skin, we installed the OEM vinyl mat along with a very cool Thermshield product....a foil/foam insulation in an aluminum envelope. We were able to form that around the frame, above the cat, inside the inner rocker. It's the same stuff as what is on new cars. That stuff is incredible...the amount of heat radiating down was huge. I do believe we can scratch "toasty floorboards" off the to-do list.....

That wiring bundle could lead to alcoholism. I don't envy your task. :)

There were some beers consumed over it last night. My lead tech is brilliant...he just understands that stuff and knows how it needs to be done. It's been a huge help to be able to put him on it for the whole day every day this week(bad for the bottom line however). I usually have him going in 20 different directions during the day....not this week....it's the harness and that's it. We're putting a huge push on getting this thing done......I want to be driving it SOON.

Just wait until you see the completed cluster.....incredible.

wiring fun

I have a permanent image of the toyota etm burned into my brain after this project. It has been a blast blending the clusters and harnesses. I'm an old hand at wiring but this project has pushed the limits of my knowledge and taught me so much more.

Well from what I hear there is a serious wiring guru taking care of business.

Just lucky to be involved and to have your help beno! Thank you so much for everything!

Its great working for someone who loves cars and shares the ability to not be afraid to try something. Its been awesome watching everything unfold.

Oh now I know who this is!

Glad I can be of service sir. Your awesome work of integration is very impressive.

Toyota would be impressed and I am sure would be happy to have you on the LC lead mechanic team.

 A.

Well thanks for the nice words but there are others working hard on this and they deserve much credit for it coming together! One guy in particular has spent so much time researching that many pieces of the puzzle were no puzzle at all.

Not only has that one guy spent a lot of time researching, he's spent a lot of $$$ putting this thing together. lol. It's worth every single penny and I look forward to the next one.

Thanks for the gifts Beno.....they arrived today. They won't get put on until the truck is 100% done. Bad luck to put them on before the truck has been shook down(at least in my book). I kind of cheated though today and put the oil cap on....it's a beauty. Thanks again!

Our lean and trim wiring harness went in today possibly for the last time....took about the same amount of wires out as a 30# mixed breed terrier....

Couldn't resist putting the seats in.....it's been beneficial to fit even the simplest of things to make sure all the parts are present and there aren't issues. Seats seem good. Strange passenger seat belt arrangement.....that 3 point harness is not for normal sized people. I might have it set up wrong but I'm pretty sure there aren't a whole lot of other ways it will work.

Front bumper went on for good....had to make up some adapters to make the FZJ80 frame allow use of the 79 series mount. Pretty straight forward...love the look of the plain bumper but I think we'll build our own custom winch bumper at some point.....

You are getting close to that point where you will be able to drive your new truck slightly north of Tallahassee to give me a personal tour and a shakedown run. :D

Charles... I'm coming and getting you and we'll caravan down on a free weekend. I do want to see this myself.

Sounds good to me.
Can we stop at a Cracker Barrel on the way down?
