Just a quick update....

Roughly 250 miles so far. It's getting better with every mile.

We had it inspected this morning, and retitled as a Diesel.

I have a radiator flush in the coolant now, and will change that and the oil tonight.

But first fuel tank was, by my math 22.83MPG.

Not bad at all.

OK, I'm off to go put more miles on it and go take some glamour shots for you guys. ;)

Sweet.

Sweet x2

Thanks guys! It's very gratifying to get it so right!

Dan: I'm sure Dad will be bringing it your way soon enough to get a gander. ;)

OK, time for those pics....

First up: the exhaust. It could be tucked up tighter in the back if we didn't have the Redline Rear Quarter Sliders, but this way it's mostly protected, and it's nearly as thick as a slider anyway. Not in the least bit worried about damaging the exhaust, and if we end up banging it someday, we can cut it off and put a curved tip on it to make it less exposed.

Notice that sexy FF rear axle! And yes, those are powder coated brackets holding the parking brake cable in place. ;)

Badges? We need these stinking badges!

Here's some overview pics of the truck finished (no, it doesn't look much different than any other 60 from the outside--but I wanted to post them. Because. Pictures.)

How about the engine compartment?

And here's the nearly completed dash. Still need to put the glovebox back in, and also put the OEM grab handle back in.

Here's the dash at night, to show the backlighting of the ISSPRO gauges.

And here's just a picture of it with a pretty sunset.
night 1.webp

I think I've posted pics of one of the best ideas I've ever had: the truck-lute LED light that we attached on the tire carrier. Dad won it at Cruise Moab a few years ago, and it is absolutely awesome to have this thing back there. It runs off of the aux battery, and it swivels so we can point it to the sides as we please, to make setting up a camp an absolute breeze.

But how bright is it really, you might ask.

night 3.webp

And here it is now that's it's real dark out. It's like having a small sun that we can turn on behind the truck.

night 4.webp

That's it for tonight. We're still driving it around, and letting the radiator flush clean out the cooling system, before I change the oil and coolant in the morning.

Makes me want my 60 back. Nice work... When are we doing some 1HZ goodness?

Makes me want my 60 back. Nice work... When are we doing some 1HZ goodness?

Good question. Now that this is done, I'm going to work on getting a 1HZ (or two) up to Idaho Springs so I can rebuilt it this winter....

Let me know if I can help... And rebuild/upgrade mine at the same time!

Oh boy
That 12HT just makes me want to do a George Michael on myself . Lucky for all around that I cant hear it from here.
I have to go now, ,,, this should not take too long.

I'm pretty impressed by the speed of this one myself.

First post was October 31. So less than 3 months to get it done. And not even a weekend/evening swap.

I do live 500 miles from the shop where I did the work, so it's not like I could do anything unless I had a couple of days off to work on it. Luckily my schedule *generally* gives me a couple 3-4 day off stretches a month to work on stuff like this.

...I can hardly wait until I get a shop built on our place in Colorado....

OK, I took a few videos of the truck too.

Just to show the general sounds and such.

First up: A cold start. It was about 38 degrees F when we started it, with absolutely no glow used.

And then a video of it on the highway. From a dead stop to 50MPH (going up a slight incline no less) and then back through a residential area at 25MPH. Comparing the engine noise to normal conversational tones.

And a couple more pics:

The completed Dash. Glovebox and Grab Handle installed.

And the back seat. My mother recovered it to match the front seats, and it's an FJ-62 seat with the headrests.

Here's a video of it from the outside. You can compare the noise of the 12HT to the dogs barking in the distance. Sounds so sweet!

But now I'm heading up to change the coolant and oil.
