Here in Iceland, all modified 80's and.. I guess most of all modified 4x4 that have been put on bigger tires, 44" and bigger have hydro assist , My 80 has one mounted on the drag link , behind the housing , mine has 44" tires. My friends has his on the front , his housing is a modified one, LC60 third and with the stearing arms at the front , he's running 46" tires

Hydro assist has 2 purposes for us, being able to turn those big tires on those wide wheels, i've got 18" wide wheels on mine, also to stabilize to get less death wobble , being towed withouth power steering is not something that I want to do :)

Yes I noticed it minimized my DW.

Have any pics or sources for parts? Are you using the 1.5 x 8 ram?

Thanks,

Do you have a hand throttle installed? Simple way to increase your minimum idle speed when you need to, and factory fit to boot.

No I don't. But that's a great idea. How hard are they to install and cost?

Is there a reason why you guys aren't moving the tie rod to the front? Seems like a pretty simple job with a RHD arm. I'm working on a Y-link steering setup. Have all the parts, just need to get the arms reamed out. That would make hydro assist much easier IMO.

Me personally I don't see any point doing so. It will not get me down the trail any farther. My front is solid and reliable. And I don't want my tie rod up front to get bashed in. And the way I wheel it will.
Adding hydro to the stock set up was cake. It's like it was designed to go there. It works mint.

I bought mine here on mud, I think it was Akella? Selling them. It was about $50 and takes about 5 minutes to install. All the factory parts it attaches to are already there.

Thank you! Will check into it.

Double check on that hand throttle. If your 80 is a 91-92 and a good deal of 93-94's you will not have the correct gas pedal to attach the hand throttle. I know from experience.
I agree with leaving the steering the way it is and adding the ram to the tie rod. Keeps it simple.

Mines a 96.So I'm GTG.

Jits, what is the bore of the Ram you are using?

These parts you guys used, they should all work with a tie rod up front too, right? Hydro assist is on my list of long term mods...

I assume these were all purpose made, (I built my own) but if anyone has them made already, I would guess Ruffstuff.

I know older thread.... but any idea where you got that mount for your axle?? Im getting close to getting this done! Im just needing a couple small pieces now

Might be able to make these work: https://www.trail-gear.com/TG/Hydro...ing/i_0_0_462/_130254-1-KIT.aspx#.V357RvkrJhE

Might take a bit of massaging with the grinder but it beats building them from scratch. I had to modify the bracket on the axle housing to fit against my diff
