Those are skills everyone should have, sadly, I do not...
My thoughts as well, I did not grow up hunting - or even fishing much - so cleaning an animal is not in my skill set.

We used Elliotts electric plucker.
It would not be difficult to do a single bird without the plucker, but if you're harvesting 10+ birds in a day, then you're going to need a plucker.
The bird had a delicious, thick layer of rich fat. I should have roasted it longer because the meat was tough and stringy.
Tasted great though.

I quit my day job today. I gave notice last week but as of noon today I am an unemployed bum. I was only at that firm for 5 months and it just wasn't going to work out. Prior to joining this company I had started my own survey company and had been working smaller projects on the weekends. I had the idea that I would wait a few years before trying to go 100% self employed. A few years turned into 7 months I guess. My plan is to work the rest of the year through my company. I have enough work already booked that would match what I would make at the other firm. It will also give me the flexibility to make my own schedule during the holidays and during the 4th quarter that is the busiest time of the year for my wife. It is unfamiliar territory for me. Over the last week plus I found myself daydreaming of not even having an alarm set on my phone. Getting up when ever and making a huge pot of coffee, then strolling to my computer and crank away at my own pace. Knowing that if I fell like busting my hump, it is going to benefit me 100% and not just go to some corporate schmuck's pocket.

This also means that if I am not working 7 days a week, I can finally get back to working on the pig. I miss that PITA so much.

Congrats on the jump from corporate 🙌🏻

Congrats!!

I semi retired a year and half ago after 20+ years as a family doc. Almost a year ago an opportunity arose which was tough to turn down which made me director of an Urgent care chain started by relatively large family owned convenience store company.

Previously I had started my own clinics which were successful and sold them when I had enough.

Now I’m checking emails and texts at all times of the day everyday. Although I’m considered to be in the corporate side of things it’s a challenge everyday. Seems like there is an arrogance from my bosses who are brilliant with stores and oil and gas. They’re naive to how complex medical business is and I’m getting tired of educating them so they can make decisions for us. Many times they revert back to the principles of convenience stores which had been shown not to work the first three years they were open. Meetings out the ass instead of someone just pulling the the trigger and just making a decision on items many times are based on best practice.

Every decision small or large they go into analysis paralysis and it drives me freaking crazy.

Keep telling myself to ride the train as long as they will let me but I too long for getting up when I want (would still be 5-5:30am) and taking dogs out or working on the property clearing trees and doing tractor work.

The cruisers need some attention and I’d love to give it to them instead of being too tired at night to go to the shop.

I have been a business consultant for the last 34 years…retiring next year. One thing I have found is that clients seem to love “admiring a problem” rather than making a decision and solving it.

@Megadoomer congratulations on the startup… Johnny Paycheck is proud of you…” take this job and shove it “. Sadly, it took me 34 years to achieve that goal in this current career and semi-retire …but I will be 72. I’d have preferred 52. I do still work 2 days a week, the commute is killing me, but I have never worked for anyone.
It feels like Al Pacino in Godfather 3 “ just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in “ .

Here’s a tip we use here for coffee. We have a few electrical plugs that are wi-fi, z-wave and who knows what else. We picked up an electric percolator and set the program to start brewing at 6:30. When I get up I let the dogs out to pee and pour a cup immediately then turn on the TV and check out the news. I scheduled the timer to stay on for 4 hours. If I get up earlier, there is a button on the plug to instantly turn the plug on and start the coffee.

Love this technology stuff. I have said this before…I was born 50 years too late or 50 years too early

We use a Nespresso machine. Makes any coffee I want in any strength (espresso, lungo or americano), flavor, etc. in less than a minute with espresso machine quality. No waiting, always hot, and most importantly, always fresh.

@WarDamnEagle that’s good to know and MUCH better endorsement than their commercials…. I all ever remember is George Clooney trying to ride away on the pink Vespa scooter. I was not aware of its flexibility. Going to have to check that out. I will say that i can blindly wake up from my average 4 hours of sleep and just instinctively tilt the pot over and it falls into the pre-placed cup ..
