My zinc plating company has done direct the opposite. 3 last cases has been paid with a couple coffee packs. Vapor honing is something I would want to myself also. The friend I borrowed the blasting cabinet from is working on makin a vapor honing cabinet. So maybe when I start building the cars original motor I can have him to blast the aluminium parts for me.

I got to try Roma's vapor hone cabinet on day one. It is awesome! Need one. As far as zinc plating, I lucked out too. There is a big production shop not too far that plates a bucket of bolts for $35. Just give them a week and pay cash.

water/media slurry that is pressurized. Think wet sand blasting essentially. Works beautifully, very smooth finish at the end. Safe for carbs and such as well, just needs to be soaked and sprayed out to remove remaining slurry. Youtube has a lot of videos on it.

Nate summed it up. It's for refinishing aluminum. Carb I cleaned today

I went through the covid, luckily a mild one. February went being sick and in quarantine. After that I had a complete lack of motivation. But I have done something at least.

Some small things. The sticker for the relay had to be done again. Clear with red lettering did not work. It showed through some small air pockets and the red did not stand out on black background. New ones are printed on black and now they look better.

I disassembled both relays and swapped some parts for better ones and did a good cleaning on them.

And ready to be mounted.

I also had this kit made. I allmost bought the oem speaker brackets but they don't work with aftermarket speakers as I wanted so I designed my own in a bit of oem look. Now I can get my Fujitsu Tens mounted.

Yellow zink for the parts, rivets, and threaded inserts. And a test fit.

Cleaned good used nozzles for windshield washer.

Nozzles, self made decal and a new vin-plate on their place.

Got some Toyota floor mats. Cleaned and treated.

Also when looking for some other things I found a good washer pouch. Unfortunately it had a hole in it from welding spark. Gave it a good clean and fixed the hole and it is allmost as good as new.

After my quarantine ended I went and got my doors from the painter. Cleaned seals and locks with a toothbrush and put them on.

It looked like a car for a moment. Windshield is on and doors adjusted.

Then took the doors off. Put some sealer around the hinges. Painted the screws and sealer and doors back on.

Also cleaned the wiper linkage from rust spots and gave it some paint.

Next thing is to put the wiper linkage and motor in. Do dome smaller things in the engine bay, mount fenders and start the assembly of the front. I have got my motivation back so maybe it starts go back together a bit faster now.

The whole car will get a rust preventive treatment after it is finished.

Thank you all for feedback. Yes it starts to get close to finish. Maybe this summer I can get it out in the sun.

So the linkage got paint on them with cleaned rubbers. Then they wen on the car.

Next the wiper motor. Linkage attached tightly on the motor so it seem that the bushing is still ok.

Someone had replaced the terminal on the original grounding cable and butchered the cable also. I got another original one but it was a bit rough looking.

I bought a basic screw on terminal and did some modifications to it. I cut and sanded the original terminal to fit inside the new one. Then I replaced the screws with shorter stopper screws. Turned a plug from aluminium to seal the other end of the terminal. Then screwed the original into the new one and sanded it smooth. Melted some solder in the terminal also. Filled the screw holes with solder and to finish it I brushed some tinning butter (pretreatment stuff for body solder).

At the same time I made a new connecting cable for the batteries. Used some solder on terminals, new cable and new cable cover. Moved the original foam from the old cable to the new one also with some wide electrical tape. Rubber boots were also refurbished and glued a little tear on them. Seemed to be quite difficult to find some in good shape. The other yellow tape stripe was replaced with a white one after taking the picture.

Release lever on the winch was rusted and did not move. So with help of some heat I got it disassembled. Also disassembled the whole winch. Mounting parts went to the painter and the winch itself I will redo myself. Also had to find a suitable spring for the pin that was rusted in up position so the original spring was useless.

Bolts for rollers on the hawse were missing. Bought ones from an older winch. They needed some length adjustment because older model has longer rollers. After the modification winch parts they and some screws and bolts went to be zinced.

It will be the last time I have to do it. And here is the last batch.

This intake silencer or something needed some attention also.

Then some parts on the car. The air filter housing turned out to be wrong model by mistake. The right one is now to be powder coated. Will swap it in when it is ready from the painter. But relays and battery mounts are on their places.

Summer with sun started to come out so I was able to paint things outside. Started with the grille. TOYOTA needed three tries and some small paint brush touch ups before it looked ok. DIESEL badge is new an I powder coated the mount for it.

Light doors needed to be "dechromed" to match the normal grill. As you remember from previous updates I needed to make the holes for headlamp cleaners for them also. Light doors needed some touch up after the pictures. A bug sat on the other one and paint came off with masking tape on the other.

Glove box was a bit sad looking. I asked a flocker to reflock it. He did not want to do it so I had to do it myself. Bought the cheapest flocking set from ebay and gave it a try. Not perfect but will do.

Refurbished also the headlight cleaner hoses.

Radiator curtain in place. Much work on refurbishing it and now no one will even see it.

Coolant reservoir was bit more yellow than the other reservoirs for window and headlight cleaners. You can buy a new jar and cap for the window washer, new cap but no jar for headlamps and a new jar but not the cap for coolant reservoir. So had to try the Retrobright method from youtube. Hydrogen peroxide and uv-light. 24 hours with uv -light and one day in the sun did something. The jar became more white but the cap stayed yellow. Did some google searching and ordered a cap for some 40 series. It looked same in pictures. Hopefully it can be used.

Then the hood.

New light assemblies got old and refurbished rubber boots.

Rod got some paint and Flex seal along with new holder and rubber grommet. Battery connecting cable on its place. And also the refurbished hood lock.

If you look in the horizon you may start too see the finish line.

@Samppahj curious what methods you’re using to make old plastic and rubber look so good when you a refurbishing it. I’ve tried many methods, but, especially with rubber, nothing I’m in love with.

For rubber I use solvent and ultrasonic cleaner or toothbrush or steel wool or all those combined. When you wash or scrub off all the dirt and the top layer of rubber it looks like new. After cleaning I use silicone free rubber treatment. Würth rubber treatment is available here in Finland but not necessary in US. But you could use something that is meant to be used on tires with a semigloss finish. For plastic I use only solvent and ultra sonic and toothbrush or some other quite stiff brush. After cleaning I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. That is a US brand so you can get it somewhere. That 303 is really great stuff and if I remember correct it can be used on rubber also. Or they have a different product for rubbers.
