Season ended 1,5 months ago and the car is in the winter storage.

End of the summer was just driving. Did not reel on the winch cable or changed front door seals. Car got 1655km so not much. I did just some daily driving and that one longer trip that I documented earlier.

So for next summer sort out hte winch cable and door seals. And then some investigations on rear brakes. They dont work as they should. If the shoes are adjusted so that hand brake works the brakes starts sticking and gets hot. Now when I adjusted them more far and did not touch the hand brake they don´t get hot. So something is wrong there.

Here is couple shots from the end of the summer.

Put some water also in the batteries with this handy bottle I got some years ago.

Teillä on siellä hyvä keli. Täällä on kauhea lumimyrsky. Minun pitäisi lähteä kohta asiakkaan luo 108km päähän. Wish me luck.

Onnittelut kaluston kuntoon saannista ja hyvää leiriä!

Wrap up of the season 2025.

At the beginning of June I was thinking if I should sell the car. I had no interest in it and it did not bother me that the car was still in the winter storage. I said this out loud to my wife and after half an hour I went and get the car home.
20250615_200758.jpg

Did not wash the car last autumn so had to do that Right away.
20250627_153444.jpg

At the end of June I participated to Pohjanmaan Classic Motorshow (Bothnia Classic Motor Show in Teuva). Had another HJ beside me, it was a HJ61.

Finnish youtubers made a video of the event. Show starts from 42min ->. They also filmed my car couple of times. Hope you foreigners can get subtitles on the video.

Got the organizer price. This was "Small block" price, meaning euro cars. Other trophy was "Big block" for USA cars. It was a surprise that old Land Cruiser got the attention.

Next event was in the beginning of July. It was a event organized by Jakobstadnejdens veteranbilsällskapin and the event was Botniarundan. It is organized annually but this year it was also the national event of SAHK (Finnish car historical club). SAHK is responsible of the museum car inspections. Meaning over 30 years old cars can be registered as museum cars in original condition and are free from taxes and mot every 4 years. For this event I had to prepare. Changed door seals. These are also Precision aftermarket as trunk seals.
20250701_151355.jpg

After changing the seals rain water came in and had a lot of noise in the cabin on highway. So had to adjust door frames a bit and got that sorted.

Finally I also got the winch cable reeled in.
20250701_163624.jpg

Had my wife in the cabin preparing for some catastrophe like mee spooling in the winch but luckily that did not happen. Nearly finished I got the wire wrinkled and loose from the spool so I had to start over. After an hour it was finished. Enjoyed of the 2H sound, luckily it does not have any VAG 1,9 diesel rattling. I also added steel wires to replicate the original ones. I had some original seals also. I did not have proper tongs to get the "teq" logo on them. Instead I pressed them with vice grips.

New wash after that and some better wax on. This is some kind of show wax with a lot of carnauba and very little durability.
20250702_162810.jpg

Also found a retro cooler/lunch bag. Taffel makes potato chips in Finland. This is from the era my mother had a small grocery store. Store ended 1993-1994 so it is allmost period correct.

Day before the event they arranged a Restoration quality inspection at Jakobstadnejdens veteranbilsällskap headquarters Vagnslidret.

IMG-20250704-WA0011.jpg

After the inspection I got a bag full of material for the event itself. Also got a number plate.
20250704_190006.jpg

The event itself was very well organized. The route was about 80km and there were checkpoints with some trivia questions or other activities where you got points from right answers etc. Weather was also nice. Only downside was car problems. The car started to studder at the middle of the event.

But got to the finish line. In the picture is 2 out of 3 off road cars in the event. My friend participated with Land Rover Discovery. Third was a Jeep Cherokee but did not see that car.
20250705_145435.jpg

And some memory from the restoration quality inspection. First class diploma and the total grade of 4,75/5. So not bad at all.

Here is a video of the event. In the beginning there is some footage of my car. Bothniarundan Veteranbilsrally / SAHK Retkeilyajot Pietarsaari (2025) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieWtv8TrcX8&t=218s

And the awards. My turn was the last to get price. Bothniarundan prisutdelning / SAHK palkintojenjako 2025 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI9m2TEZB50

Then I enjoyed the summer and lack of AC. Stuttering also continued now and then.

At the end of July it was time for the local car show again.

Stuttering continued. I started thinking if it gets air when the tank is near empty. But it was not the case.

Then came autumn. Had to take some pictures on the back yard after harvesting and a nice sunset.

I had to move the caravan to wash it. My daily was not drivable and wife at work. So I had to put the Toyota to work. Protected tow hitch with thick paper and it survived nearly without paint damage. Would have been nice to go on the road to test the towing capabilities but the caravan does not like 24V so could not test that.
20250908_125219.jpg

I got also contacted from Automobiili magazine. It is SAHK (mentioned early) own publishing. I said ok for doing a magazine story of my car and then came the photographer.
20250908_153153.jpg

Got couple of sneak peaks of the photoshoot.

Got one more thing from mail. This badge is from the restoration inspection. Now I can show off to everyone that I won something. ;)

Participated to second last driving arranged by Vaasa historic car club.
20250924_175439.jpg

The stuttering got so bad on this trip that I left the event and went home. But now I noticed that there is a relay click from passenger foot well same time that the car studders. On the way home it did that stuttering every 5 to 8 seconds so It became quite annoying.

When I got home i took the Fuel Control Relay out and opened it.

20250924_191138.jpg

Not a big surprise if this does something wrong. I cleaned it as good as I could and went for ma evening test drive.
20250924_200226.jpg

No stuttering so found the problem.

Then to the last gathering of the Vaasa car club. It was a tour in Vaasa car museum. Very nice and interesting place with lots of history of engine building in Vaasa. In the history Vaasa was known for Olympia boat motors. Later by Wärtsilä ship engines etc. If you rad this and somehow sometime end in Vaasa be sure to visit this museum.https://vaasanautomuseo.fi/
20251001_181732.jpg

On the way home the stuttering began again. So had to source a new relay. I saw that Cruiserworld had reproduction relays but in my experience I am very skeptical in everything they have produced by them self. But luckily I found one from local "ebay". There was so many complications on the buying process that season ended before I got the relay.

One nice day with -1 deg C roads were dry and I moved the car to its wintering storage. Glow plugs needs replacing. Starts so poorly when cold and does not run on all 6 the first seconds.

Now I finally got the new relay.
20251112_154914.jpg

20251112_154935.jpg

It has sat on the shelf a long time. It was delivered on December 21. in 1981.
20251112_155448.jpg

Old and new.
20251112_171009.jpg

Runs great.

And shuts off. Previous relay did not have that delay on shutting down. But it works and that is the main thing.

I drove 1159km. After all a very good summer. Events were nice and fun and got lots of good feedback. Only downside of the whole summer was these technical difficulties. Hopefully they are now sorted.

Thank you for sharing. You have the nicest HJ60 I have ever seen. Really, the nicest 6X series I have ever seen. The attention to factory original details down to the fasteners is so very difficult. Well done!

I am curious about the Mustang (T-5?) in the picture with your truck. Looks like a 1966, with a Hi-Po air cleaner (can't tell if the V8 fender badge is the Hi-Po badge). It that a Euro T-5? or an imported Mustang? Was a former love before Land Cruisers.

The engine is sounding great!

Thank you for the compliments.

It is a Mustang and it is a 1966. I made a scale model for my father-in-law when he turned 50 of that Mustang. Then then I did research about the car and Mustangs in general to get all the details right. With vin search it said it would have been a inline 6 from the factory. Now it has 289 V8. Paintjob is poor, rust repair on floors are poor. But it runs and drives and overheats.

Here is the model I made. Combined 3 different sets and made some photoetched parts myself along with power steering pump, center console, air filter, decals, modified pony interior, etc, etc.

The engine is sounding great!
Yes it does. But it leaks oil quite heavily. I am planning to maybe do a full overhaul for the original engine during winter. Let´s see if I have time, money and motivation to do that.
