Builds HJ60 Snow white

Salt in summer, Wow! Maybe the auto industry had some input on that decision, frustrating. Answered
a long standing question though.. I knew a few old timers who used diesel oil/transmission fluid mix as
an anti-rust compound for the frames and lower bodies. Keep it going, doing a great job!

Well one waypoint achieved and I got the frame home from the painter. It looks brilliant.

Also new leafs got paint on them.

"Self made" bumper brackets fits and looks good. I really like the paintjob.

I also had some parts yellow zinc plated. They said rust is not a problem on parts, well everything did not come off in acid bath. But I think they will work under the car just fine.

Some of the brakeline brackets came without coating on them. So I sprayed some paint on them. I used as topcoat some carburetor refurb spray that I thought would look like yellow zinc. Well it does not. But at least they have some paint on them.

Had to try some parts on how it will look.

Allso tried to bend some brake lines. Needs a bit practise but at least the pipe straightening tool and bending pliers work like they should.

More parts from the painter. I will start my summer vacation next week and my goal is to have a rolling chassis at the end of my vacation.

I also modeled this kind of a kit. Was not able to get new or used in good condition so have to take this route. Still need my friend and his tig-welder.

First week of my summer vacation is soon over. It is time for some vacation pictures.

Drivers side brake shield was rotten. I tried to fix it with another shield and it went to trash. So had to find a new one. Managed to find a pair in good condition so I "had" to buy both sides. They were in so good condition that it was nearly a shame to sandblast and paint them, but because they were not perfect so I had to do it.

Brake shields in rear became a bit see through when blasting them but luckily I had another pair. They were on the axles while they were painted so also shields had paint on them. I just had to paint a bit on the inner side of them. No pics on them.

Then some sandblasting. Hubs, spring plates, etc. Plates had to be fixed a bit. Shock mounting pins are a bit bad on all of them, but I have to try to manage with those.

I bought this tent from Wish as a paint booth. Then it was time for some paint.

It was a bit windy toda so the tent moved over to the neighbours field. It allso tipped over my painting stand so ai had to paint the parts once again. This time in my garage. It should not fly away with the wind.

Also had some parts in zinc and yellow zinc. Some of the parts in last batch went on a second round. I could not live with the rust spots that were in them. This time I soaked the parts in citric acid over night and removed remaining rust spots with Dremel. So this time the parts were spot on. Also diy brackets were zinc coated.

And the story continues. Had to make a tool for wheel bearing tightening.

Then brake drum on its place.

And then the same job to the other side

Then it was time for the brake lines. I was a bit afraid how it will turn out. First try went bad on first bend. I had the pliers wrong way. Second attempt looked like this.

Then after couple more tries I managed to make a decent one.

Longer line was good at the first try.

And at the end I put tires on. Soon I can get rid of the jack stands.

Now I have to wait for some missing parts to the front end before I can continie.

Nice job. How about some photos of where you live. The scenery looks awesome I really like the back ground of your photos. Looks like you got the cable locked axles on yours, nice touch. I too had to make a wheel bearing but tool for the full floaters when I rebuilt mine.

And here is our sauna. It is a important thing to finns so had to show it. It got damaged couple years ago. A little fire broke loose inside, but it is fixed now.

And here is one picture where my hobby space is. It is a farm house so the yard is full of junk.

Beautiful scenery. Is there snow still in the ground there now? Looks like lots of evergreen trees. I live in the southern United States and we don’t get all four seasons here. Makes me reminisce about growing up in Russia.

First it is a HJ60, not 62

Budget is a thing I do not want to think about. It is too much to be reasonable. But thanks to that I will never have to even think about selling it.

Color will be original white.

Some progress again. This bracket for diff lock cables gave a little headache. One of then broke last time in yellow zinc. I got a spare one but it dissolved too much in citric acid. Luckily got one more and it did manage the plating process.

After that bracket I thought that batch for yellow zinc would be ready. But I found the axle breathers and found out that one of the valves was broken. Luckily again I got a spare one.

And botch of them zinced but not assembled.

While waiting for the parts back from zinc I worked with spare wheel carrier. One of the plates had to be taken from spare carrier.

Also washed the carpets.

There were couple of stains left after wash. Otherwise the carpets were good so have to go with those until I find better ones.
also refurbished FWH parts.

I powder coated this one with chrome powder. It looked very good before clear coat. Now it is silver. Have to do something with those later.

Painted the ALB valve. Not really right color, but will do.

Steering box painted and decorated with yellow bolts. Maybe they all should be black, but...

Changed the knuckle bearings, seals and other stuff and assembled.

Now will have to wait for the seal in front hub before getting the tires in place.
