The Game is all We Got, Speaking of Dads' Mine always said, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" I really have to say if we all followed LandPimps' quote " and I will parse and paraphrase,
" Always be true to your work, your word, and your friends & you will never live a day without peace".
Tomorrow is another day, we all are blessed with each other and have found good and common topics to share. All of our motives and needs are different, but lets' for the good of the art agree to let this pass and get on to sharing knowledge and accomplishing good things on our cruisers. And with that said to all a good night!
 
I believe it was over three months ago when we knew he was thinking of selling... Kinda bummed when I read it... Even more bummed he wouldn't trade his cruiser for my supper fine example of a high mileage DD ... My cruiser has so much character and he said NO ... But... Since it didn't sell ... Maybe I can re-offer the deal LOL

Even after that we knew a lot of us still helped out... Because its not about the seller or the $$ to me it was to have this cruiser be perfect as perfect can be... Too many times you see dealerships and museums with 'restored' cruisers that are just not good restorations and not even parts from the same decade...

I was hoping he wouldn't skimp out ... And he didn't ... And I am grateful for that

This cruiser was for sale for a LONG time it came up from the same seller several times ... Nobody wanted the ugly duckling ... I always thought somebody was going to snag it up and destroy it ... Part it .... Or cobjob it

I am happy for fjfjfj ... Still kinda annoyed about not trading however :) but then again I'd be the one that got it and destroyed it :)

Landpimp I see your points and observations as well... There are many like that out there ... cough cough VOR and they do ruin it for some people
 
Sorry, I did not mean to come off like I did, for some reason it was rubbing me wrong, maybe because right before I posted I found some rather rare parts I gave to a friend for his land cruiser......on Ebay. Helping others just seems pointless sometimes and what comes out if it not always good.

You did a great job on it and should be proud, but once it hits Ebay....this thread was used as a sales tool, which also made it a for sale ad

If it does not sell to someone that found it on Ebay.....well then I am wrong.

and if anyone thinks I was bidding or interested, I was not, I have 10 Land Cruisers....and have ever only sold 1 other and that was to someone here I had promised it to, if I were to ever sell it. (edit, I gave 1 other to a local kid and another to a local friend)

many of the old cruiser lit used as a resource came from me at some point. I have posted it for 10+ years for others to enjoy(and one guy here stole it all for his website) So helping with these old Cruisers is something I like

My biggest gift(and fault) is that I pretty much tell it like i see or fell it, for better or worse, I dont lie or have any angles or agenda's......what you see is what you get. Which often times comes off like I am being an ass.

again, not knocking the 40 or the work....its fabulous

I totally get where you are coming from

I have given parts away for a song when I felt people genuinely needed them more than I did - by the same token, I would be more than pissed off if I was made to believe some poor chap had a hard time affording even a used part (and I gave it to them for almost free), only to find out later that the truck, all along, was meant to be flipped/sold for profit soon after the build :mad: :bang:

as I have no intention of selling my 40 anytime soon, I wish to thank all of you folks here on MUD who sold parts to me; I could almost build a second 40 with the stuff stored in the garage :o - many parts go with me as spares when I go wheeling :steer:, so :cheers:

Landpimp, no worries from me as I also understand where you are coming from. I also own a few cruisers and as much as I try to look at them as the tools they were built for, I also stand back and say they should be in a museum. I suppose an analogy would be a 1966 GTO, which was common in my youth but now has achieved its' own position in antiquity. I suppose as time passes the FJ40/45 etc.. will also have its place there.
I personally would help fjfjfj and anyone else working on these and I do not care if they are targeting a sale, movies, or anything else. I appreciate all the effort to see what these rigs can be.
It is also interesting that when these were built noone really saw the diamond that they really were.
 
I forgot to also add if they asked for parts and implied that they were really in need and actually just saying that to get them, then I do agree the deception. So, my limited view so far is a barn recovery to museum piece. (And it is pretty)
 
Planning to list it on eBay again? Assuming the bids were legit it's by far the highest numbers we've seen on an eBay cruiser in recent memory - at no reserve and if betting my salary at auction start I would have guessed high 30's but I'm no expert obviously so those numbers are great. Cynical me but I've heard sellers will have friends bid it right up to the reserve so I always have doubts of high bids but reserve not met when the bids seems to creep up every few hours on the clock - hence the earlier posted joked by someone that your reserve was $100 over the high bid FYI. Really interested to see how this sale ends as it's a unique well-restored cruiser for sure.

Prices continue to rise on these and even Barrett Jackson did a write up on this fact. For those thinking high thirties....not sure if you understand the cost to restore to this level. I have a very nice 78 FJ40, but not this nice and this old. I hope he gets a very high price- more than the eBay stopping price. I think it will happen.

Yea definitely think Barrett or a big auction house is the place for this for sure - cruisers that would have been lucky to crack $20k on eBay have been selling at double that in recent big house auctions.
 
One of the benefits of the high prices that these classic vehicles are bringing is that people can afford to restore them properly. I see that as a good thing.

You did a great job restoring this. I received a lot of help on ih8mud for saving my 1962 40 from a guy who was going to take it to the metal scrap yard. When I bought I didn't think I was going to sell it in 6 months. With help from ih8mud (you and others) I was able to get it running, and driving and respectable as a 40. But I ran out of money and it still needed work to be a safe daily driver. I sold it for around $3,000 so I could get a 76 fj40 for about the same. I didn't receive any negative comments for listing mine for sale, although some may have thought it. I had to flip it or it would have been sitting for a long time while I saved up money to keep working on it. So I sold it to someone who was excited to do a diesel conversion and all new suspension.

Some people get emotionally involved in their own projects, and even others projects because we spend a lot of time reading and enjoying their builds and troubleshooting with them. So it is hard to step back and consider the financial/practical side of selling. But being financially wise and passing this on is not right or wrong in my eyes, and I ultimately hope you feel supported with the sale from us on ih8mud.

I wish you luck with the sale and hope I can do justice to an fj40 like you did.
 
It's his rig. He can do whatever he wants with it. We should be happy to see a rig brought back to it's full glory, and we should be glad we got to observe the process and lend a hand. Who cares if it's a flip as long as it's done right?

i think pimp is just sick of the razors of the world (older mud members know exactly who i'm talking about along with those that followed his role model). those that snatch up rigs, post up wanting help on everything to get "their new rig" up and running, only to find that the plan all along was to flip the vehicle. i love seeing those aholes chased out of here.

ward/tlc gets high dollar for building a high dollar rig by themselves. you don't ever see people from tlc posting up asking questions on how to fix something or whether or not this is period correct. even vor, the most suckiest of dealers, doesn't post up here looking for advice. it's their job to know (or in vors case to not know and not give a crap).

that said, this is an exception. fjfjfjfj, took this to the extreme in quality and period correctness, so i'm ok with his questions (although i was pretty sick of seeing the same question posted in every single section). had he butchered it together, i would be siding with pimp, but he did it more justice than just about everyone out there.

For those interested in what an all stock restored 1962 FJ40 will sell for I wanted to let you know that mine sold for $75,000.00 to a collector who WILL be showing it on a regular basis. It took about 10 days to sell it. Wish I could have kept it but having it shown at shows is the next best thing. Cheers, fjfjfj
