Shoot, got a code 28 and 71 today. Grrr. That code 71 has come on randomly for years, I have cleaned the EGR valve, replaced the modulator and replaced that temp sensor. Frustrating. The code 28 is a new one. I replaced both O2 sensors recently, I guess I better get back under and see what is happening. :/

Can’t see any issues with the New O2 sensor wires. Weird. Maybe there is a break upstream more. The code was momentary though so maybe a rubbing point somewhere? Not sure.

So the FSM states that code 28 means No. 2 O2 sensor has a short. Does anyone know which O2 sensor on a FJ62 is the No.2 one?
Edit, I have never had this code before and I am wondering if I have a faulty sensor and its not a weird break in the harness.

Anyone with an original unmolested 62 series engine bay know how these wires are supposed to be organized down by the starter? Mine look to have been messed with are just loosely zip-tied to random stuff. I assume this is not a jumbled factory afterthought... but it could be argued the 3FE was one. hahaha I am going to try and clean these up and tie them higher up so they dont get so much road grime and following a factory setup would be nice. Thanks!

I cleaned a lot of that wiring up by installing an H55f in my '86 FJ60 with transplanted 3FE and wiring harness. IIRC there are some sheet metal tabs attached to the underside of the body shell in that area that secure some of the wiring.

Yea that does not look like a factory zip tie.

Wish I could help, that bundle was a jumbled mess on mine when I dropped the trans, and mine were also covered in black oily grime.
It’s a clean up job I’ve been avoiding, post up your solution.

intermittent are the worst kinds of problems.
Indeed. I got a CEL for about 2 minutes a couple months ago. Hadn't seen it in years. Oh well. It's that random undiagnosed (and possibly undiagnosable) cutting out and loosing power once a year for a couple mins (always when wife is in the truck) that had me frazzled. Could never recreate it. The joys of 30 year old wiring/sensors/computers.

I swear, whenever I feel like I finally solved a CEL in this truck it comes back. The first test drive is great, no light and feel so good I finally fixed it. Next day its back. hahaha.

Haha! I stopped trusting the first drive. Week 2 and the random drive to In n Out and the problem comes back...I swear I have to give it 3 weeks sometimes

Ha, ok. I need to adopt the 3 week wait time.

LMK if you havent sorted that out yet. I would be happy to shoot some pics later this week. I am pretty darn sure that I haven't rearanged anything near the alternator on mine.
Thanks I appreciate that!

Been a while since I updated but I have been working on a lot of little projects here and there. One I just completed was installing a aux AC fan to help boost that low speed cooling performance, especially in the summer!
Supplies:
10" SPAL fan from Jegs: SPAL 30100374: 10 in. Low-Profile Fan 12 V | JEGS - https://www.jegs.com/i/SPAL/063/30100374/10002/-1
New switch plate via @ChaserFJ60 Fj62 HVAC Switch Plate Replacement | Etsy - https://www.etsy.com/listing/965758491/fj62-hvac-switch-plate-replacement?ref=yr_purchases
Decals via @63FST Landcruiser FJ60/62/80 Interior Decal Kit | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/174801240005
DT connectors (14ga wire)
3/4" aluminum flat stock
Dupli-Color Universal Black Metallic BUN0090 Page link
Satin clear urethane spray paint
Sealed Panasonic 30amp relay
14ga and 18ga wire
FJ62 rear defrost switch

Ok so for the SPAL fan install I like using factory mounts whenever possible. Even if that means a funny looking bracket... But they actually all came out nicely. I have a non-stock condenser but this fan should fit with the stock condenser and spacing the cross tube out a bit so the fan can tuck behind. I probably could have squeezed a 11" fan on there but the 10" seems perfect to me:

Wire routing into the engine bay. Through a factory hole and under the battery. Made a little bracket with a clip on zip-tie to keep the wire tidy and not rubbing and moving against the body.

Switch plate against the factory unit. A very close match! Key was to paint the plate, then sand it with 600grit or finer to knock down the shine and bring out a bit of the grey. It would look better if I sanded it more carefully... but I discovered this on accident actually when I was not happy with the black. Luck! @ChaserFJ60 made a great product with the plate.

Time for the switch! The decals from @63FST are top notch and easy to use! Wipe off the old print you dont want with brake fluid and a Q-tip.

Assemble the supplies!
51318343098_073d68efe9_z.jpg

Clean the surface of the switch. Cut out the decal you want and tape it on the switch how you want it.

Once its in place rub with a eraser from a pencil to apply decal.

Gently pull back the plastic and there you have it!
Now tape off the switch for the protective top coat. I used Satin clear urethane, perfect gloss match to the factory plastic. Semi-gloss and gloss would have been much too shiny.

All done!

Wiring for the switch. I have the fan getting power via a sealed Panasonic relay. It needs about 7amps so wire and fuse accordingly.

Time to pop it all in and enjoy the fan! I'll report back with some vent temp readings with the AC on to see how effective this little fan really is.
