I'm toying with the idea of glueing a gutter type flap to the cowl cover under the grill closest to the funnel to divert any water coming down towards to driver side which is the opposite side to the funnel.

Water is my biggest concern. Especially washing the truck water as it only rains here 3 times a year.

Will get the hight measurements for the funnel today.

Got busy finishing up other pending projects.

How is that humidity issue any different than the current setup?

It has been my experience when you draw air through a material saturated with water it adds water vapor into the airstream. The stock setup doesn't have any filter material to get saturated with water. As someone stated previously, water diverters may be necessary to keep filter materials dry. It seems to be a trade off of putting a filter into a sheltered area and it being harder to access vs. a filter material that is easier to access but may get wet from rainwater. Like I said, just trying to brainstorm the possibilities and not saying there is a right way or wrong way to achieve this.

My point is that there probably isn't much water getting in the stock setup. If there was you'd already have issues with humid air or you'd have water pooling somewhere.

Just came back from the junk yard. Went to eye up a donor truck for the funnel and agreed on one with Joe the junker. Will cut the entire section and bring it home. From the hole above the blower all the way up to the cowl cover so we sit indoor and measure it up as the weather has turned and it's bloody hot outside.

Taking my Honda generator and disc cutter to get it tomorrow for free as he owes me money.

While walking around found that the fj60 has an opening in the firewall just next to the scoop and their scoops have a domed net on it. Would be checking toyodiy for related part numbers just for kicks.

This will make the next part very easy.

That appears to be more than a Honda generator and a disk cutter.

Well spotted.

It was faster that way.

Decided to get the guys to do the cutting. They ended up running out of gas so we pulled the disc cutter and generator out but was also out of gas.

So I had a choice to either go get gas for them of fuel for us and decided to go with the acetylene. Way faster.

Ok guys. Managed to get some measurements taken of the space inside before I cut the top section.

Measurement where taken at each corner to show the difference of heights in the cavity.

So now that it's easy to access I will start developing some options.

Will try to get it 3d scanned and upload the file for those with 3D modeling software so you can mess around with the shape and maybe do a 3D print for development.

Stay tuned and sorry for the delay.

I'm curious as well.

Also, are we assuming the horizontal lips on the driver's side half of the intake snorkel are to keep water from sloshing inside? or did maybe toyota design it for a filter and never finish the project?

Any up dates on this AWESOME modification

Any news. I deal with tons of dust out here, the point that I keep a pack of baby wipes in the glovebox. Mine gets dust driving to the gas station! I'm ready for this mod. I like the simplist solution possible.

To be honest it's been on hold with the weather being as hot as it is here over the summer working outside has been a no no.

I plan on picking up very soon.

Stay tuned

No idea why there are flaps. Maybe it's for the splash
