I don't know what's the best way to measure it as it's not a square

Any ideas on the best way to measure it ?

Put a small ruler/scale/measure in the picture and then take the photo from straight above... I can then scan that into CAD and puslish a PDF/CAD template for folks to download as they'd like.

Ok. I'll scan it and make a pdf file for you in its actual size.

Printable Funnel Size template.

Ok here you go guys have put some effort into a dummy proof printable template.

I hope this helps.

The driver/passenger is for LHD vehicles right?

Ok, maybe I'm dumb, but I'm having a hard time following what the final design is here. Are you going to make your own stand-alone writeup at the end?

Dumb no, confused maybe : ) . This template or size was requested by some of the guys on mud. I presume they will either develop their own solution or send it to a company to make them a filter.

So in no way is it a solution at this stage.

Was not planning on making my own build thread. Just solving it in here if that's alright ?

Stay tuned and hopefully we will all have something to add to the development of a solution.

Started to hash out some ideas on paper.

The problem is that the funnel has an elevated area on the passenger side

Which makes sticking anything on top impossible. The solution needs to slide in and clip onto the flaps

These are rough elevations of the funnel just for thought.

I think this would be a good solution
Placing a permanent case that can hold a filter. The only problem is the size of the filter is reduced due to the strange shape.

So working on another idea. Will share it when it's done.

If you could cut the funnel off an old rig you could use it for prototyping. Maybe fiberglass would be the best choice for this as it would allow the tightest fit.

yah i might have to make from fiberglass or something. i remember using suction moulding with acrylic in school. That would work a treat on this. I need a 3D printer :bang:

ok i think i have the best fit so far.

its an adaption of the previous idea except you insert the filter from the wider side allowing for a bigger filter and to conceal the filler within the case.

i think the images are pretty self explanatory.

will measure space tomorrow to take it to the next step.

Getting excited

There's a few guys on the forum looking for things to make with their 3D printers. Maybe hit up one of them. Bhicks is the first one that comes to mind.

Will do when it's time thanks.

I have to say...I'm thoroughly impressed with the progress you're making here and how detailed you're making it!

Keep up the great work!!!

I can't believe I didn't think of it before. The blower has the male shape to the funnel female shape.

Getting old. Will go to the junk yard and only take half the casing.

So that's how the pack rats are getting into my 80, lol!!!!!

That's great work! I wonder why go with a strange shaped filter element but instead make your adapter but place a widely available square/rectangular filter above the funnel. Simply adapt the weird shape to a square received placing the filter above it but keeping the slide in cartridge idea. Easy peasy. ;)
