I have a 1993 fj80 that has started to have transmission issues, i originally misdiagnosed it as a transfer case, but after swapping in a spare I had it continued.

Going above 30km the whole car shakes, loud metallic clicking sound when shifting into drive and the car jerks, same with going into park but not as bad.

Any advice on what this could be?

Pull the driveshafts (front and rear propellor shafts) and make sure it's the transmission. You said "fj80"; do you mean FZJ80 with the A442F transmission?

Ouch,
I save time by putting the unit on 4 good jack stands, and then methodically pull parts.
Start with going through all forward and reverse gears and no to little throttle. Use your bloody brakes to stop wheel spin....
If all 4 tires spin freely then move on.
If tires do not spin freely remove them and inspect caliper and brakes. From this point on a driveshaft and/or both in order to isolate a potential area. Do the easy crap first!

Yeah my bad, FZJ 80 with the A442F is correct
NP, just asking so that I didn't pull the wrong reference if you had more questions.

After Re tracing my steps and realizing maybe I pulled the wrong box under the dash to look at, I pulled out the correct TCU and found this. I ordered a TCU and at least I addressed the more common issues with my transmission along the way. LOL lets hope we are good for another 200K
