anyone running dual batteries in their 55? Only threads i can find are pretty old and products not available anymore. My 55 has AC and all emissions stuff still on the motor so it's pretty tight in the bay. I'd love to see what you have done.

One thing you can do is turn them 90 degrees to how John has them. THere are some group sizes that are not very long and you should have enough room. I search this chart to see the size of battery that would work.

I believe I planned on doing a group 28 Optima.

I put mine in back on the passenger side up between the frame and the body a group 24f deep cycle one fits perfect , made a double box that the center drops out of ,to access it . no pic on file on this pc but i can snap a few tonight

Yes, Bobm has it the way I imagined. I would look into using a deep cycle that runs all of your goodies and regular high CCA battery just for starting. That's what I took as a good setup but there may be other ideas.

thanks guys!

I used the stock tray with dual Optimas ( i run oltimas in everything no problems) I just cut the flanges and swapped the sides. They're both going under rear seat soon.

cool. didn't know two would fit in the stock tray. I'll have to look into that. I bought a dual battery tray my bro put in his 45, soon as I get that i'll try it out and see if it will work in the 55, if not I'll put it in my 40. Hadn't thought of putting one on the drivers side @J Mack i'll have to take a look and see if I can get that to work. Mine still has all the emissions and everything on the motor, looks pretty much untouched since new. Kinda wanted to keep it that way, but would like the additional batter for winch and accessories. Thanks for the help everyone.

Having the dual batteries was mint in blue when we drove it to the first pig party especially when we lost the clutch

Not sure anyone makes a bolt in one for FJ55.

Here is one that I had fabbed for two of my FJ55s:

Here is one installed:

The other is currently on the shelf waiting for one of two FJ55s to get further along before install :p

And just for giggles, here is before any bending:

Those picture are in my Trail55 build thread around page 40 ;)

What thickness is that material? I had considered using the 1.6mm sheet i have here to fold up a battery tray..

Does anyone put any bracing up underneath? Mine is mounted on side like everyone else’s and I always worry about that kind of weight with no support under.

I put an interstate group 31 battery up in the void behind the rear wheel passenger side. Made the box out of 1/8” steel plate. Bolted to the frame. Not the easiest to access but only when it needs replacing. Use a floor jack to stuff it up in there.

looked for the stash of photos to contribute but no luck. My build thread has them I think. Tales, trails and trials.
