the photos do not do justice to the quality of work accomplished.
I had the pleasure of visiting Bryan this past weekend and the ability to first hand take a look at his build.
when you walk into the shop and glance at the 60, it looks stock at first. You know something just isn't right but nothing jumps out at you. a true sign of a quality workmanship.
the tires are slightly outside the body, could be off set of the rims. taking a closer look you realize the offset is opposite of what you expected. a glance under and the front coil suspension grabs you. 80 series axles squeezed under the 60, nice touch. front coil and rear leaf ... later 70 series design. and it works excellent. the cornering, the ride are both impressive. the truck feels very stable.
pop the hood and a clean HDFT install is lurking, waiting to purr to life at the touch of the key. there are little things to be finished there but if toyota had put the newer diesel into a 60 i suspect the finish product would look similar to this install.
it took little to convince Bryan to take us for a ride. That HDFT was supplied by CruiserAddiction out of London. It feels new, sounds new and pulls like ... STRONG. a gasser with a tick aptly describes this engine. Coupled to the H55 and a mating from heaven is the result.
the terrain around Bryan's property is a great testing ground for this setup. steep S curves test the gearing, the handling and the braking well. the I75 is just a couple min from his place and doing 75 mph is effortless for this vehicle. tons of throttle left should a pass be required.
Quiet, Powerful, comfortable ... one of the nicest 60 I have the pleasure to inspect and ride in. Congrats Bryan.
Lets see how the 1966 FJ45 diesel swap turns out.
Cheers

Nice write up!

I drove Bryan's 60 when it had the 12h-t in it and it was awesome. With the 1hd-ft it can only be another notch better methinks. That suspension is so tight and smooth plus the 5 speed it feels like a newer rig or maybe the perfect example of what we should have been able to buy in the US all along.

I stopped in at Bryan's place on a drive through Kentucky and got to spend a couple hours hanging out and checking out his rigs. We took this 60 for a drive and I must say it's the best overall package I've been in yet. The suspension/steering setup is a huge improvement - it really does drive and steer like an 80-series or more modern car. The diesel is great - very nice driveable torque curve, not too loud, and excellent mpg. This really feels like a rig you can drive all day at 80 mph.

It's definitely got me thinking about a coil conversion on my own 60 and wanting a diesel. The LS is nice, but where I live in the mountains the turbo diesel would be perfect. I'll probably save that for another build. If only I had another 60 in progress... ;)

Got tach working using the factor pump sender,Dakota box and sixty tach. But the single is to low to read below 1000 rpm. From 1000 on up it is dead on. I guess I need to amplify the single slightly.

Is the Dakota box adjustable? Or more pieces?

I have all the adjustment out of the box, the single from the sensor is just to week below 1000 rpm.
