Early style JIS hardware - is it available? (1 Viewer)

Was just looking at the Overland Metric hardware. Very nice stuff, but all the bolts are the later JIS type with indented heads. The bolt heads on my '64 are all flat w/o markings. Does anyone know of a source for the early type? If not, I'll use the later style, but I'd rather not if possible.

I usually get all old/original hardware zinc plated to reuse. Haven't found to many sources for original looking hardware.
Some vintage Japanese motorcycle screws are close to early Cruiser screws.

Way too much of mine is missing, or far too damaged to re-plate. I will need to replace most of it. I'll use the later stuff if I have to, but would obviously prefer the early style.

Time to buy an early parts Cruiser and scavenge it for nuts and bolts . Thats probably your best bet if you’re dead set on going OEM. I think Toyota switched over to numbers on their bolt heads late 64ish. The early 40s do have various bolts with “H” on the head at least that is how my ‘62 is.

Not worth trying to find somewhere to stash a parts rig just to find enough early bolts to replace. My goal for this truck is not 100% original and pristine, it just needs to look good and be mostly period-looking.

I'll probably just buy a full kit from OM and live with the later recessed heads. Better to have the proper head sizes and to have everything match than to scrape up bits and pieces.

Keep your eyes peeled for somebody that’s parting out an early rig. They’re few and far between these days, but you can gradually replace the newer style bolts with older ones as you build a collection of them and have them plated.

I bought JIS small head hardware from Bel-Metric.

The JIS from Bel-Metric do not have recessed heads, but they look more like modern bolt heads. Only clear zinc available. Buying the same quantities from them is more than the yellow zinc full kit from Metric Overland. Decisions, decisions...

Bump. Has anyone found a catalog, list, spreadsheet, or pdf of the different JIS bolt manufacturers that supplied Toyota over the years? I am considering starting a thread on hardware variants across the years, but have no interest to reinvent the wheel if that information is already out there.

I have a basic sense of the ordering, but not necessarily exact production date changes. So I would ideally start a thread like I did with the choke cables, and have everyone chime in with which varient their rig came with.
