the early version up to and including 1980 would be drilled and tapped for the bellhousing mounts
1981-1984 or 85 would not be drilled and tapped for the bellhousing mounts
the inspection cover is almost the same, there is 1 bolt in a different place
I started this thread 2 years ago, then decided to dump my SM420 and buy a complete H42 and split tcase from @orangefj45 .... so that option exists too ;)
Hey everyone I’m in need of a ‘76 and up factory front disc brake axle. If you have one in the Southeast or are willing to strap to a pallet and ship please let me know.
Thanks

Sold both of my Datsun 240Zs. Saw this FJ40 for sale and had to have it. Worked on it over the winter.

Interesting about the differences in the 4 speed top covers! This adapter will only bolt to the two-piece top cover used by the pre-79 H42.

@ClemsonCruiser the pic you posted and the pic from @kevos37 have different bolt patterns
there was a change in the bolt pattern, IIRCC the change was when the crossmember was used versus the bellhousing mounts
I think it is just the 1 hole...
the bolt I'm referring to is on the bottom of the bellhousing right front corner.
in your pic it is right next to the vertical front piece
in clemson cruisers pic the hole is on the side around the corner from the vertical
or clemson cruisers pic...
