I know a couple of people with them. I would call them more of an all terrain than a mud terrain. They aren't real aggressive. The tread blocks are pretty close together - more like a BFG all terrain.

I thought BFG was currently the only manufacturer making a 33X9.50 tire.

Dean (bought by Cooper) apparently still makes one.

Has anyone used it/tried it?

I posted a thread in the for sale section.......I bought five of these and have put about 1000 miles on them. I love them, snow, rain they drive fine. Haven't used them in any mud. There are some comments on the following thread:

I had 35X12.50X17s on my Dodge. I got 48K out of my 1st set, but only 30K out of my 2nd set. Both sets were siped. The difference in mileage is most likely attributed to actively logging for firewood with the 2nd set. I really liked them. They do well in mud, snow, and ice. I can't imagine that they'd be bad on a 40. As mentioned above, they're more like an AT, though. You can get them at Les Schwabs here in the west.

I'd put the add'l $150 or so bucks together, wait if I had to, and go with the BFG's. Awesome tires!

Will 33X9.50's fit under the stock body/suspension height?

I had a set of these on my FJ60. They are very good tires. They fit very well on FJ60 rims. As I remember they wear very well too.

Thanks for the link. I just bought a set of five. Hopefully they will work out fine. I was trying to find BFGs, but I was told that BFG was out of stock and a few people with whom I spoke doubted if they were still making them. :o

I forgot to add that I did have a good experience with these tires as the Cooper Discoverer S/Ts. I had them on an Isuzu Trooper I had and I liked them better than the Bridgestone Duellers I was running at the time. For the price, they were amazing.

just put the dean 33 x 9.5 on my FJ62; drove three miles to my house and the bead blew out on the back side. ordered them from tires easy. com. it's pretty much a nightmare situation: dealing with a foreign company and a local "certified installer" and trying to find out if its the installers fault or a manufacturers defect. meanwhile i have to pay to ship them and have them inspected.... stay tuned...

i asked a local reputable tire place and asked about the 33x9.5 bfgs, he called and they said they're making them again, but it's about a month wait, so i was told. planning on this size hopefully for my 60.... so far good reviews for the deans, except for one blow out... hope it's just a bad batch??

btw, on the dean sight, i searched for 33x9.5r15 and nothing turned up, discontinued now i guess...

matthewcory, sorry to hear about your situation. so far I have loved mine. My only concern was what was mentioned in the other dean thread about age. mine were made in the end of 05 so i'm not too concerned about it. it has "made in the usa" on it so i hope that suggests some good things about quality control. what size rims are you using? good luck.

I asked Texican for some 33x9.5 options for a buddy of mine this morning. He said the Dean's are all gone...for sure.:frown:

dean tire update

so i got the replacement tire and am finally driving around on 'em; quieter than the kumho 33 x 10.5's i had on stock rims... went wheeling in some mixed new england terrain, nothing extreme but they seem pretty good...

i wish i could say the same about tires easy. com. no word yet as to whether i'm going to get refunded for one tire after i shipped the defective one back. for the cost of all of this hassle, i would just say get the bf goodriches; these FIVE tires are now more that the four BFG's and the newest one i got was manufactured in January '06....

I have these on my 62 and they are great. We also have them on our work truck and perform very well even under that 3/4 ton beast of a service truck.

They are also made in the USA!

That would be a shame. I'm running a set of 33x9.5x15 and they ride really nice. I believe Les Schwab sells the Deans out west here and they seem to be a solid, good wearing tire.

I was up at Edwin's shop (LCS) today and he had a '77 40 he had just put a set of 33x9.50 BFG AT on new steelies. I'm assuming they are available ...

Tall and skinny look sweet ... made my 33x10.50s look wide :frown:
