A few small updates. I plasti-dipped the grill as the chrome was flaking off. Went gunmetal at first, but I didn’t like the color. Sprayed black over it. Not sure how I really like it, but it will do for now.

Also did a few more maintenance items. Replaced fuel filter, cleaned MAF, and cleaned TB. Planning a leatherique treatment and exterior detail next week.

Looks like I may do a cross country trip this summer with my oldest boys. I am going to shift my focus on making updates needed for that. Found a good deal on a Thule box on the local classifieds and picked it up today. This box will really help with family travel on both vehicles.

The rack is the Original Kuat NV. I have the standard 2 bike rack with a 2 bike extension, so it holds 4. They don’t make the original anymore, they are on the 2.0 version now.

How difficult was it to replace the fuel filter? Run into any problems?

Takes like 5 minutes. It will leak some fuel, so do it outside if possible.

Can’t speak for OP, but the fuel filter is designed to be a easy job to replace. The only tricky part is releasing the green plastic clip on the one end. If you break it an easy job will get more expensive as you have to replace the fuel line with the plastic throat and green clip. It’s about a 15 minute job without any drama.

Been off this week and found some time to work on the LX. I did the Leatherique treatment. Left it on for over 24 hours. Even left it in the sun on a decently warm day. My seats were still very glossy and tacky when I cleaned the oil off. Makes me think the oils never really got into the leather. Leather is a little cleaner and softer, but you really can’t tell much.

Performed a two step paint correction on the exterior, will get some pics of it tomorrow. I also upgraded to an Odyssey Group 31 battery using the Slee kit. Pretty easy install and the kit was well thought out with good instructions. This should help with extended camping trips, especially if I can get an ARB Fridge!!

Previous Jeep owner here, might get another JL one day with a Diesel but loving my LX 470 for now. I like ur set up!!

Haven’t updated this in a while. I spent a day working on the LX a few weeks back. Planning a cross country trip to Utah this summer so trying to get everything setup for that.

My vehicle came with aftermarket stereo, backup cam and Bluetooth. Mic was broken so I replaced it and confirmed my radio does have a video bypass to allow playback while driving.

I also replaced the hood shocks with some Amazon units.

My front headlight had a huge crack and was soon to start allowing water in. I found an OEM reconditioned unit off eBay. Turns out it has plastic lens and not glass, but I used it anyway. Not very noticeable. I installed an HID kit at same time. It seems ok, I don’t think it does much in stock housing. The squirrel finders are for real though.

My driver front has been popping when stopping and restarting. Appears to be my CV’s so I guess I will pony up for an OEM replacement.

I also removed the rear reflectors and installed some Amazon backup lights. See the pics below. This really helps with the backup cam view at night.

Getting ready for a west coast trip in 6 weeks. Got a Dometic fridge and needed to add some 12v outlets from the battery. Ran 8 gauge from battery over to passenger side. Added a Blue Sea 12v and a Dual USB. Also added a 12V outlet to the back of the center console. Fun project overall, tested it out with the new fridge for a few days with no issues.

I have also been chasing down a front end clunk/pop when I start and stop quickly. It is on the driver side directly under my feet. I have checked calipers/pads and sway bar links, all good. I found a bad driver CV axle that I thought was the culprit, but no luck. Today I found that the AHC sensor arms were shot but that is also not the root of the noise. Finally found the lower ball joint had some play and when you beat on the bottom of the tire you can produce the noise. I filled the joints with grease and it has lessened the noise a bit. Based on service records the current Moog Ball Joints have over 50k Miles on them, so I am replacing with some 555 lowers. Hopefully this finally fixes the problem. Also find some mini linkage joints from McMaster Carr that should fix my AHC sensor arms. Much cheaper than replacing the entire assembly, when all the other parts are fine.

You might check the steering shaft as well. They develop play over time and can make it feel like something in the suspension is worn.

Yeah. I took it out to Gear Grinders Garage today. We went through the front end looking for play or wear. We only found the ball joint making noise with some play. Passenger side joint has split boot, and based on the mileage and that the PO used Moog joints, it seems most likely

Small update. The joints on my AHC sensor arms were shot. No way I was paying $150 each for new sensors. Searched the part number stamped on the stock joint and found a suitable replacement via McMaster Carr. These worked perfectly, no issues. Total cost for 4 joints shipped was $30.
