Can I convert a dana 60 front to a six lug? I'm considering putting a dana 60 front on the front of my pig and running a full float rear from a 80 series. Is this a bad idea? Currently have 60 series axles under my pig and run a carb'd 350 sm465 203 and 4sp cruiser case with 38" swampers but wanting to step up to 40 iroks when I see the right deal on a used set. I may have found a good deal on a dana 60 front and separately a 1997 80 series rear. I'm currently nervous for my aluminum cruiser t-case so also looking to go to 203/split case from an 87 fj60 which I have or to the 203/205 sometime later on. But for now just wondering on the axle combo.....

I'd say if you are getting a dana 60 for the front and you are planning on going to a 205 you might as well shop around for a 14bolt or sterling 10.5" you can find them both pretty easy in full floats and they are much stronger than a 80 series.

I Googled that last year and found some six-lug Dana 60 hubs. I don't recall the price, that will most likely be the important part... It does sound like you need to find an old Chevy 1-ton and grab both axles if you're going into 40" land. BTW, Eric at Six States driveline shop will make you a smoking (comparatively speaking) deal on an Atlas T-case if you want the ultimate piece of hardware.

Solid axle has some really nice kits, check out their site.

I'm thinking I should quit holding back. I'll run what I got for awhile and start prepping the parts to be swapped in. I should just go 1 tons front and rear. I have a couple 14 bolts laying around. So now I need different wheels and a detroit for the 14 bolt and make some changes to the steering to work with the dana 60 and and and and...........

There you go! now your thinking! looking forward to seeing a build thread.

I know I cant be to far from the same adventure. However my first thing will be a 14B rear, trying to hold off on a 60 front as long as I can.

Pigtown already has a build thread. I don't know how to do links but its in the 55 preservation society. It's called "tough enough for 40's?"

So I'll be continuing that build thread. Thanks for the support.

Please meet pigtown.

I met those guys in reno, nice guys compared to all the trash talking they have taken over the years.

for a cheep 6 lug Unit Bearing.. they have no competition.

I agree.

I use allot of their parts and most are great and cheap. A few are not so great also, but its that way with anything really.

You have to be able to step away from the bandwagon long enough to evaluate parts for oneself.

My truck is a rolling TG ad. It has it all from housings to tcase adapter etc.

Sometimes there is a better part available but never for the price that TG will offer it. Some people will always pay more for the better part even when the better part is the same as the alternative. Some folks dont have the loot to chose anything but the least expensive route to achieve their goals.

Not everybody will chose a lexus in life, some of us are OK in an old cheap hilux.

One of my 60's has TG hysteer and they both have the TG ram assist ram on em.

so far so good.

I use their stuff as well, the parts I've received have all been very nice for the price. I never understood all the TG hate personally.

I think the dislike for TG was about them copying the 6 bolt 60 knuckles, and might be BS but do they farm out any of their work overseas?? Not making a statement just a question.

I see thy've been into wheeling toyota's for a while, and I dont know them personally so cant say. They could be a good bunch.

Although, I gotta ask, $300 per 1 unit bearing hub? that is a good price? compared to who else?
Doesnt sound cheap, but alot of their other pricing is good.

Step away from the toyota man.

Dana 60 s*** is twice to three times the price of pollishing a toyota.

Considering autozone wants 300 for a stock unit bearing for my 98 dodge cummins dana 60 and they (TG) are asking the same for a CUSTOM 6LUG one that was never available in OEM form.

Doesnt sound bad to me?

I hate unit bearings.

I guess my question with that is who else ever made a full new forging of the knuckles and forged arms to go with it? I know that Bobby Long does the 5th stud mod but I've only been around Toyotas for a couple years. In the racing, muscle car, hot rod, etc etc world it was pretty common for one guy to come up with an idea and if it becomes popular for others to bring out improved version back when there was more true innovations being made. Edelbrock for example started and became popular because Vic Edelbrock started making flathead ford intakes on a larger scale than the smaller operations could and expanded his catalog as demand dictated.

I'm sure they have the base forging operations done overseas and probably do the finish machining and inspections here because a US forging for such a relatively low volume part would be damn near impossible for the price.

I hate unit bearings.

Are they unreliable? Ive never worked on them, except in working on a friends heep.

I would think if they hold the rubber on a D60/D60HD.. under a full size diesel domestic, they would hold the wheels on a toyota.
