Are they unreliable? Ive never worked on them, except in working on a friends heep.

I would think if they hold the rubber on a D60/D60HD.. under a full size diesel domestic, they would hold the wheels on a toyota.

Yes, they hold the rubber on a Full size truck. For a while.

Unit bearings were instituted because it was a faster manu process. They are not rebuildable and they do not have the longevity of a conventional spindle.

Although, I gotta ask, $300 per 1 unit bearing hub? that is a good price? compared to who else?
Doesnt sound cheap, but alot of their other pricing is good.

Step away from the toyota man.

Dana 60 s*** is twice to three times the price of pollishing a toyota.

Considering autozone wants 300 for a stock unit bearing for my 98 dodge cummins dana 60 and they (TG) are asking the same for a CUSTOM 6LUG one that was never available in OEM form.

Doesnt sound bad to me?

exactly, $300 is a fair price for a custom peice esp. considering a stocker if the same price like you said.

I hate unit bearings.

one of the things i really hate about my 3/4T dodge. That and freaking balljoints.

exactly.

the not rebuildable and non serviceable part means shorter service life of the parts (tho my stockers have 204,xxx miles) but when they fail they are a much more expensive part to replace, they dont take any time to do but at 300 bones a pop it hurts. A locking hub kit for the front in on my "want" list for the to rig as it eliminates the unit bearings and allows the front end to not constantly be turning anymore, but that is a $1,200 kit.

Thanks for elaborating, I havent dealt with or replaced the unit bearings before so I just didnt know. Now I know a little!

Though I think you must agree, comparing the cost of a 60 series spindle and hub with bearings and seals, well I wouldnt say the pricing is incredible. Not that im saying TG's pricing is bad (like you said in comparison to what stock parts are) , but the cost for a disposabe versus repairable part seems not so great...

And now, Im curious what it would take to get the front end, as to the OP's question, to 6 lug for dana shafts in a better manner?

Can you take a non unit bearing front and turn the hubs down and re drill them for 6 lug like you can with a 14B?

Just in case anyone was interested they're $100 off right now due to their 3 day end of the year blowout...

It's a good thing I asked this question so everybody would have a place to talk about trail gear stuff.

The answers are already there,

You can use TG unit bearings which are already 6 lug and through thursday are 199 a piece

Or you can have a non unit bearing hub turned down and redrilled for a 6 bolt pattern

Or if you're doing a 14 bolt rear just run 8 bolt wheels and sell the 6 lugs.

I hate unit bearings.

I have 6 lug Dana 60 axles under my junk. I'm proud to say I don't have any Trail Gear crap on my rig.

I personally find it funny that all these folks started talking about unit bearings assuming that you had a ball joint 60 series front axle, and not one person asked you what Dana 60 front axle you were looking at, or what the Dana 60 front axle was out of.

Running a modified front Chev Dana 60 on six lug since 1999....

I'm with Mace, I hate them. I have seen with my own eyes far too many unit bearings poop themselves. The bearing is not wide enough to support the torsional load, especially with wider than stock wheels and many of these have (sit down before you read this) plastic bearing cages. Get that good and hot a few times and see how long they last. Not only are they garbage, they are expensive garbage just to add insult to injury.
