Just read this entire thread... super pumped to find this! I just bought my 2nd 80 (sold my first because of the seats). The factory seats and me just DO NOT agree... I'm 6' 4" and the seat is too high and doesn't go back far enough. I bought some Honda Accord seats from a 'pick-n-pull' this weekend but I couldn't get them modified so they would work and be any better than what I have. I'm VERY interested in the Corbeau Reclining Sport seats with the manual bracket but would love to hear from anyone that has them... do they sit higher/lower/same as stock? do they slide back more/less/same as stock? I REALLY want to love the 80 but just CAN. NOT. get comfortable in it :(

Thoughts from the big guys?? I've heard there are brackets to extend the factory seats back but they raise them up... true??
I have the corbeau sport seats which I recently installed. I used the corbeau brackets (took a few tries for them to get the dimensions right for the holes in the floor). They do sit higher than stock (it is noticeable), they do slide back further as well.

I don't know how happy I am with them. when sitting back it is like my shoulders don't touch the seat. Hasn't been much of an issue just feels a bit odd at first. Better than stock but might switch out to something else some day.

I'm 5'11" and about 185lbs FWIW. At 6'4" I feel like you would be uncomfortably too close to the ceiling of the rig.

@b1Thanks for the feedback, that is exactly what I needed - just not what I wanted to hear. I can't decide whether to keep searching for solutions or just give up?!?

As pictured here earlier in this thread, I used some steel flat stock, steel pipe and basic welding skills to install some $800 craigslist Porsche seats. I'm 6'2" and I set them pretty far back and low down. Solved the seating position issues for me.

I've since sold that truck, but I've got some modern Jaguar seats (pictured here in a since-abandoned project) for my "new" 80 and hope to do a similar install one of these days.
The issue with Jag seats is they sit two inches higher than stock. Just a touch cramped for me, perfect for my wife.

I have the same seats with planted brackets. I feel the same way, better than stock but not quite perfect.

Does anyone have experience or thoughts on installing Mercedes AMG seats in an 80? Would they be comfortable?

I installed a set of 100 seats in a previous 80 once. Hated them from day one. So deep into it, couldn’t admit it to anybody. I’m not a small guy, and kinda slid around in them. Most passengers commented on that, too.
I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with the 40th seats. I just love that color scheme.

I installed mismatched 60/40 seats. I have a gray cloth bucket and a brown passenger cloth bench under the covers. Originally from a foreign 80. Hated the stock center console armrest until I drove without it. Still testing it out and not sure I like it long term. Also still need to get proper seatbelt recepticles. Only have a working DS seatbelt at the moment.
It is nice to just fling bags and stuff over when getting in without worry of hitting anything.

I'm going to tackle fitting some power/heated RX-8 seats with Planted brackets in the near-ish future.

All these seat swapping and im still most worried about wiring.. anyone doing a how too on identifying wiring and control functions? Not to mention a lot of the modern seats also have air bags. Ive found a nice set of range rover HSE seats but can't find any details on how they are powered so I'm not buyingyet. I'd love to have all the adjustments and the heat and cooling functions but wiring just plain scares me.

I was able to find the Land Rover Disco wiring diagrams online for their seats when I was going that route for the 80. I’m pretty sure all makes and models are somewhere online. I usually search images on Google.

I used Audi S4 seats. All they needed was power and ground. All switching was done within the self contained seat harness
No seat heating though.

The Audi seats I used needed a 20Amp fuse per seat (might have been 15, but I was surprised at how many amps they were using).
Make sure you figure out what sort of current you need for seat motors and heaters to operate at the same time, and cable and fuse accordingly.

I ran new supply cabling from battery to a sub- fuse block in the cab as there was no OEM power source suitable in the cab for my install. My 80 had manual seats, not electric though

Great info thank you, I think the tan in the S4 seats matches well and I have sat in them I know they are comfy, or at the very least much comfier than my rock hard 97 LC seats. Did they by any chance sit lower to the ground than the stock seats? I'm 6'1 and I like to sit lower, the LC seats are high for me which is odd because I don't remember it being as much of an issue in my old LX.....but that was a few years ago and maybe I just got used to my GX.

I managed to fit them so the seat is a little lower than standard. I'm 6'6" so every bit counts.
It took some careful measuring and alteration of the original seat legs to get it a low a possible

Perfect thank you! Would you happen to recall the model year range for the S4 that matches up?
