anyone done a set of land rover LR3 seats? Looking for full adjustable passenger with lumbar support and the LR3 fits the bill. Just don't know if they will fit.

I installed a set from 2006 lr3. I did make up my own brackets and did have to modify the part of the floor that is impacted by the front seat brackets but other than that it was pretty straightforward. I opted to go with these seats because they have the seat controls built into the sides of them.

The LR3 seats look pretty nice. I am seeing a bunch of Range Rover / RR Sport seats for sale, but few decent LR3 seats at the moment. My original LC seats are shot- the springs have worked their way up through the crumbling pad to the leather, but the leather is so stiff it can hold its own against the springs... So I am looking for something quick.

Are the RR seats the same size as the LR3? Also, I saw a photo of the underside of a RR seat and there is a bundle of about 40-50 wires that were cut during the take-out. I can't imagine what they all do but I sure hope they don't have to get connected up again!

I'll update this thread with pics later today after the sun comes up but yeah, they're pretty close in width but a tad taller. If you go this route, think about eliminating the rear heater as that tends to push the pass seat about 1/2" higher than the driver side. Not a super big deal but if symmetry is your thing, like it is mine, you might be irked a tad ;)

Secondly, there are tons of wires from the LR3 seats that aren't needed so you can eliminate most of them. Since they come with bun warmers, just purchase OEM seat heater switches and plug them into the LR3 seats AND to the wires already exist under the center console :bounce: Follow this thread for switch wiring info forum.ih8mud.com/forums/80-series-tech.9/

I'd like to get rid of my 80 seats, if anyone wants them. Driver cushion is less than seven years old but the stitching is coming apart while the leather is in good shape. Mine comes with an adj armrest!

Thanks for the comments. I would like a little more information about the switches. For some reason I could not follow your link to a specific thread (?). I am hoping I can just hook up power to pos. and ground, which I think are the fat black and brown/purple wires going into the main RR seat harness. Eventually I can probably trace the heat seater wires, but any hints are welcome! Man, there are a lot of wires under there! Do I need to worry about the side air bag in the seat?

This is where I got the info for wiring up factory seat heating switches

A quick follow up on the Range Rover L320 seats I bought- they are too tall! I test-fit the passenger seat on top of a Planted bracket. I am 5'10" with a long torso and short legs. The seat has me perched up so high that I would have to pull the seat really far forward just to reach the pedals. At its low setting, the seat seems about the same as the highest setting on the LC seat. They are very, very comfy and could work well for a tall person, but I am looking for something else.

I carefully measured the rail width, seat width etc. but I did not think about the seat cushion height. Reading through this thread I see several others commented on this, I wish I had paid more attention! After looking closely at the LC seat, it is actually cleverly designed to make it low while still fitting the motors etc. and also fitting over the floor rail.

might be joining the WRX seat club, picking up a manual pair tomorrow...thinking about using the planted bracket.

Let us know how the WRX fit you. I am especially interested in the seat cushion height!
The Planted brackets look great- very sturdy, and with a couple of 1/4" steel bars to catch wider rails I think you could easily mount anything onto them.

My friend @bryson and I did some cardboard engineering about 2 months ago to layout the bracket shapes and then another local mud number with a fancy plasma table translated those pieces of cardboard to nice 3/16" plate brackets. Everything then bolted together with 5/16" hardware...no welding required.

I will also note that I was able to use the factory toyota/Lexus seat belt buckle with a slight modification and a spacer....easy peasy.

I am mocking this up in my driveway with a pair of '06 wrx seats...which appear to be the same rail width as you '12s. A dry mock up without the planted, but some hammering on the tranny tunnel leaves the seats offset from the center by about 2.5" (and the sides of the seat touching the door cards when closed...so no good as is).
It looks like your planted mod rig fixes that offset by positioning the inboard slider as far inboard toward the tunnel as possible.
Questions:
1) how much did you have to hammer on the tunnel with that set up? If any?
2) did you just weld the LC buckle to the Subie buckle to extend it?

1) I think I knocked that corner of the tunnel down about a half inch...took a few good hits with my 40oz hammer.
2) No welding required. I just trimmed a bit off the totota buckle mount strap and added a spacer to position it out a bit from the seat. Then used the WRX seat belt hole...same thread size and pitch as the toyota belt bolt...works great. The planted brackets also have a provision for a seat belt, but I didnt use that.

Are there combinations where you do not have to make any alterations to the car itself (possibly with a different seat base = not self-made)?
Any nice extra would be that you can adjust your seat in height ...

VW seats have height adjustment but you will need to adapt the bases. Pick n pulls are full of early 2000 Jettas, Beetles, and Passats. Most of the seats are manual and you might even find a set of Racaro seats randomly.

This 👆🏽 They make some comfortable seats. That’s what I’ll get around to one of these days. But I’ll definitely wait until my seats are almost unusable, instead of being on it early. 😂😂.

So with seats of a VW that can be operated manually, I can not go wrong?
For the basis, are there sometimes no universal bases for this that you can work into the car without welding?

mine are pretty fine for +30years old, however, i have a problem with my hips and they are not feeling wel in the original seats :frown:

Not a cruiser but I picked up another set of 2011 VW Golf seats (same as the ones I used in my 80) and installed them into my sons minitruck. The ones I put in the 80 are leather, these are cloth. But both seats are heated with power recline (although the recline is useless in the reg cab minitruck. I've been really happy with these VW seats. Very comfortable and supportive, and not terrible to make work. Not sure if a Planted bracket will work with them or not but I would guess it would. I built custom brackets for both sets.

Cloth ones in my son's truck.

Has a base been made in the meantime to make it easy to fit in the HDJ80?
I think these are perfect & indeed VW seats are great!

Well I wouldn't say you can't go wrong. I own a VW Jetta and the seats are comfortable enough that I don't complain. Better than my 80 seats? Probably but I don't know how difficult it would be to put them in an 80.

Has anyone tried the bestop seats the jeep guys are using?
