EDIT : Proper photos of vacuum routing are on page 2 of this post

I've been having stalling, starting, stumbling and backfiring issues on my stock (desmogged) OEM carburator on my FJ60

I've been very happy with my Trollhole and City Racer carbs on my 40 and 55 but these trucks are bare bones simple with just one vacuum hose and one belt on each.

Yesterday I installed my @Racer65 carb the way I did my FJ55 and it ran pretty good. Lots of power. Happy.

Then I got home and started reading Mud (all I could find were old Trollhole articles) and I ripped out a bunch of stuff. Added the VCV back into the mix and the AC idle up stuff.

Now it starts good. Idles good but it's got no power.

Also, when I try to plug the carb spacer vacuum like I read it dies.

So here is how it sits now. Y'all let me know where I'm messing up.

Pics to follow

The idle up solenoid is getting vacuum from the firewall manifold bung

The bottom of the AC idle up solenoid is going to the carb

I'm not sure what this doohickey is on the fender but I just put it to the air cleaner

I took this vacuum to the air cleaner (I know it's not doing anything )

I was running this from the carb plate to the far side of the air cleaner but when I put the VCV back on I tried to plug it and it kills the truck

Just guessing here, and it may be the pix, but it looks like you've got the ICS hooked up to the WHITE wire side of the harness? Should be the Green, 12V+ side.

Any idea what Main Jet sizes are in that Carb? It's the Japanese aftermarket, yes?

Make sure the secondary isn't hung up. Mine wouldn't actuate under vacuum signal. I did the paper clip test to verify and as soon as I manually worked the secondary linkage a few times and lubed it with some grease, the truck came alive.

Can you explain that further please........

2ndary was my next thought as well.

Paperclip test is putting a paperclip on the secondary rod, tight against the diaphragm housing, drive around using WOT and then check to see if the clip has moved. If yes, 2ndry is working, if not, problem.

vacuum secondary question

Drill that down for me a bit more and show me which one is the secondary rod please.

This is the thread that i followed.

Help a Dummy Desmog Day (Trollhole)

Why do I need the VCV?

Where can I run this vacuum sucking fool? Charcoal?

I installed an trollhole carb on my 60.

Got it idling great and the ac idle up hooked up. Drove around for 6 months and finally thought it was a little down on power.

Did the paper clip test and no matter how hard I flogged the truck, I got no secondaries. I removed the pod, checked for the diaphragm on my secondary was good. I reinstalled and did the test again.

Nothing. Finally I manually actuated the secondary linkage and it was tight. I worked it back and forth several times and lubed it.

Suddenly the truck would hit secondary about 2000 rpm and it felt like it gained 30 hp.

I was so used to the truck being dead slow that I didn't know what it was like to have secondaries. My Aisin was blown on the diaphragm and I never had it before.

Just something to check. After I got the linkage unbound, it passed the paper clip test and the truck drives great.

I wasn't planning on posting this "duh" moment but I feel that it's something to check.

The rod that comes out of the bottom of this housing:

Not enough intake air. It's a giant vacuum leak when open.

On a side note, how do you like the quality of that Carb ?

Can I put it to the Charcoal canister tube coming out of the firewall? The large bore near the manifold inside the booster?

My trucks are not desmogged, but as far as I know, most people just cap that. Someone with a properly desmogged rig is gonna have to chime in.

I can take some pics of how mine is blocked off and working.

I only have the distributor vcv and ac idle up hooked up.

Watching this , my city racer carb runs great but I may have gotten lucky on the plumbing . Hoping to learn

Intake elbow is plugged, vcv goes directly to gas Filter with three prongs on the intake, distributor goes from the one port on the carb directly to the inner pod on the advance pod.
