1 banana working slowly through desmog & I have a bunch of questions. I've looked at the diagrams and stuff, but I feel like I'm trying to learn physics or something. I'm posting a bunch of pics with some stuff numbered and I was wondering if you guys could tell me if I need to plug, remove or where to connect the stuff.

I'm using a Trollhole w/ high-altitude jets, Spectre air cleaner, Jim idle pulley & plug set and I have the EGR stuff blocked up with some gaskets & plates. I've removed EGR, smog pump, spaghetti and 4-5 miles worth of vaccum hose.

Dizzy - #1, #2, #3 - I currently have #2 hooked to only port on Trollhole carb. What do I do with #1 and #3?

What do I do with #4?

How do I connect #5 to #6? What do I do #7? For #8, do I need to move stuff from old carb to new if I'm not using the A/C?

#9 & #10, I bought new valves for both of these since the nipples were broke off. Upon reading further I can plug up one of them and use the other. Supposedly one is needed for cold weather operation? Do I need to drain radiator fluid to replace these? Which one am I keeping and where does it plug up to?

#11 HAC - it has a port glued off, so I'm not sure if I can still use it. I'm still debating whether to remove it or not. I'm in Colorado Springs @6K ft but could possibly hit trails up to 14K. Carb has high altitude jets in it...thoughts?

#21 - What is this for on the carb? What to do with it?

Spare parts? Do I need any of this still?

4 is the pvc, it needs intake manifold vacuum. 22 needs an air filter on it..go to the lawn and garden section and pick on that fits snug.
if you got rid of the egr crap, the whole assembly of #22 could be removed from the fender and disposed of.

#1 is one of the 2 vents in the dizzy cap to remove gas vapors and replace with fresh air. One side goes through your firewall to a filter somewhere in or around your glovebox. The other vent should go to the aircleaner. If not hooked up properly your dizzy could blow up.

#22 should also go to your aircleaner but could be vented to atmosphere.

4 is the pvc,

It's a PCV valve...

-Skillet

Pighead plumbs his into the big hose in his carb insulator plate. Just above the manifold. It could just be vented to atmosphere, but would make an oily mess.

Do you still have the original air cleaner? If you want to retain some of the things you noted you want above you need it.

1.If you want to keep the VCV then you will need to connect it back up. The VCV is in the top middle of this pic.

Refer to this pic as to hook it back up.

2. Is correct.

3. Cap it. You cannot use it since the carb has no provisions. You can try connecting both number 2 and 3 together and then to the carb vac advance port and see if you like it. But if you get pinging (engine detonation under any condition I would cap it and be done.

4. PCV valve needs to be connected up to that port you blocked of with a plate under the carb. Go get that piece out of your box and cut the left side tube off where your left with about 2 inches. Then cap it off. The right side tube goes to the PCV valve #4.

6. In this plug locate the terminal that is 12+ with the key switched on. Make a small adapter between the two using a male and female spade connector. That or cut the old solenoid wire off your old carb and graft it on to my carbs wire #5.

8. This is your A/C idle up part. Look at your old carb remove the parts that this connects to and bolt it on the new carb. Look at this pic. I did this desmog for a friend this weekend.

15 goes to 17 and then goes to the diaphram that hooks to 8.

22 needs to go to the air cleaner.

You can cap the rest.

Here are two pics of the desmog trollhole and I did this weekend, I'm going to take more pictures this week and do a write up, but basically the only three vaccum lines you need are from the distributor to the carb, the AC idle up, and then the PCV valve, everything else can come out. The ports coming out of the thermostat housing are just there, we didn't plug them, just left them alone.

Thanks

Thanks for the info & pics, guys. I now have faith that I'll be able to get the Turd running again!

I think I'm going to do away with the stock aircleaner. I picked up the chrome Specter one and adapter that somone else had a pic of in a desmog thread...still needs a little mod to clear the hood.
