Yeah, Dubai is a killer at the moment. Everyone just thinks it's hot but the humidity is awful at this time of year. I've been outside working on the Troopy recently during the day, plus walking the dog at 5am in the desert and have to drink 6+ litres of water per day!

Got to love these desert cars though - that floor looks solid!

I couldn't imagine working outside in Dubai this time of year. The floor is quite solid. Frankly there isn't a speck of rust on the entire truck. Amazing after 25+ years.

I can find this cover but not the label in the parts diagrams. Anyone have a part number or source? OEM or aftermarket are fine with me. I suppose I could just glue the edges.

30 minutes with a plastic putty knife, some citrus based engine cleaner and a few paper towels. Unfortunately the area under the seats isn’t nearly as soft. Maybe I can find some dry ice?

Borrowed a heat gun from my neighbor and it definitely helps. It's still going to take a bit of elbow grease. I went to the one store that I thought might have dry ice today but no luck. Hard to find things in Riyadh online when you don't read Arabic. Of course the National Dry Ice Factory is in the industrial area south of the city. Wonder if I just show up with my Yeti if they would let me take a sample?

We actually have very western grocery stores with exceptional fruits and vegetables. There’s also a very western butcher shop or two that have everything....except pork. I can get, for example, prime or wagu inside skirt steak most anytime I want to make carne asada. But I would still love to have a nice Publix at my disposal!

If you do find some dry ice, make sure and mix it with some rubbing alcohol to make a slurry. It doesn’t really work very well unless you do this. Basically you want consistency of a snow cone.

So in between 30 minute intervals with a heat gun.....in this heat and actual work work, I tried my hand at vinyl repair. The driver's side seatbelt vinyl was torn which was not only unsightly but a bit annoying as it was often flopped over between the split bench seats. I don't think I have found a second career but this should at least keep it upright. Thankfully also most of this repair will be hidden between the seats.

So here's the before and after. This would not have been possible or not nearly as possible without a heat gun but even with the heat gun I was struggling with the plastic scrapers that I was using. They were not that strong and were also flexing due to the heat of the asphalt material. I went searching the house last night and had a minor epiphany when I ran across one of my wife's Pampered Chef pot scrapers. With that small tool in hand I managed to remove everything remaining in about an hour or so this morning.

I also managed yesterday to replace an NLA part that had been bothering me for some time. It's just a small rubber flap that sticks above the bumper to close the gap between the bumper and the fender. I ordered some exterior rated, reinforced rubber from McMaster Carr which appears to be a major upgrade from the OEM anyway.

Yes as far as I can tell; at least in the gray. Trust me, I always order new when it's to be had. I also repaired some holes in my emergency brake pull shroud; also NLA in gray. I ordered a new black one of those which I can always paint in the future.

The seats have been out of my truck and sitting in the foyer for a few days now. The original cloth and vinyl are in decent shape and I like the originality but the cushions could use replacement. Of course they are NLA but Amayama claimed to have all four available so I thought why not. Kinda expensive at $120 to $200 each but shipping to the US or Saudi was only around $55 dollars. I received an email from them this morning confirming that they were available (surprising) but that shipping would be more than originally quoted; would I like to proceed.

I thought to myself; how much more could it be?

I've decided to kinda sorta replicate the OEM look of the floor sound deadening with some Damplifier Pro topped over with a mil or two of Spectrum. Plan would be to mask that off and paint over it with OEM beige. I plan on ordering enough to do the doors and top and would likely use some of their Heat Wave Pro in the top as well. I bought an OEM headliner way back so might as well throw that on while I'm in there. Unfortunately Second Skin Audio has no retailers in the region and shipping those products here, given the weight, cost more than the products themselves. A neighbor has freight forwarding privileges so hopefully I can work something out to get the materials shipped. Otherwise I will wait until flights open up and my wife can bring them over when she comes.

So long story short; floor is on hold at this point.

So I went to test fit the OEM front floor mat that @Onur managed to source and ran into a minor snag. Before getting into the problem let me say that I am psyched about the new mat; especially given the asphalt laden jute backing and holes in the one that came in the Beast. Now on to the minor issue; just in case someone else sources one of these for an FZJ75.

Simply speaking everything fits perfects except for the shifter hole. It's ~2" too far forward. It's the right size and in the right location left to right. The transfer case is also perfect. So anyway I cut two inches off one end to enlarge the hole toward the seats and was planning on using that material to add two inches to the top. Unfortunately the section that I cut has grooves in it and they looked kinda funny just ending into space without connecting (like the seat side) so I cut a section out of the old pad which was in excellent condition in that area and used it. I'm still not perfect at mending vinyl but it has mechanical integrity and won't be that visible in front of the shifter boot anyway.
