Father in law helped me do the front brake lines today which was the last thing needed before the maiden voyage.

She moves on her own after more than 5 years of intermittent work on it.

First impressions were awesome!! Drives really nice and a lot of things I'd wondered about were answered pretty quickly like loudness of the exhaust/tires, brake pedal feel with the 80 series booster and master, ride quality, etc. I'm very pleased with everything so far!

Still a pretty long list of stuff to do but at least I can move it around on its own now.

Just incredible! Beautiful work. :cool::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Just showed this to my wife, and we both agree - -SO COOL!

Trying to knock more stuff out every day. The last couple days was all focused on getting the manual bump shift to work. For some reason, it wasn't letting me shift it manually. I used a Snap On scanner to get into the transmission which told me exactly what it was trying to do.

This shows each gear and when I cycle the shifter through P R N D -

This screen shows the activation of the manual sequential shift mode and the pressing up the shift up / down buttons -

The issue ended up being the neutral safety switch. It needed a diode as the start circuit was backfeeding 12v into it, so it thought it was in P or N at the same time as R or D. Once the diode was put in, the code went away and manual shifting worked!

Wife drove it for the first time tonight... I think she liked it!

Short drive away video -

So, its been an interesting week for URJ45, and somewhat of an emotional roller coaster. Last weekend, got all of my linkages done (auto transmission, 2/4, hi/low, front and rear locker. I was so excited to drive it and try everything out. Little did I know that one of my four tack welds fried the ECU. It would barely start and barely run. It also threw about 6 codes so I knew it was pretty bad.

I was extremely bummed because the ECU is matched to the key transponder ECU which is matched to the key. I went to all of the local junk yards to find Tundras and Sequoias that had all three items still in place, but had no luck. I ended up finding a part number matching ECU on LKQ's website so I ordered that and received it today. Luckily, I was able reprogram the ECU to match my existing key ECU and key and she's back running again.

I've welded on many vehicles before and never disconnected the battery. I've always heard you should, but never actually had a bad experience or talked to someone that had an issue. Guaranteed, I'll never weld without disconnecting again. I'm glad it was a somewhat easy fix, and I hope this saves someone else down the road some heartache by doing the same.

Shes a beaut.

Awesome to see it out on the trail. Looking forward to seeing it with the top on.

You can use a surge protector, just clamp it on the + and - of the battery.

Lots of paperwork and phone calls the past few days, but with a huge amount of assistance from @2manycruisers , URJ45 is now legally registered!

Towed it to the DMV for VIN inspection, engine swap inspection, and smog inspection -

Finally getting my new plates I ordered back in November -

What a better way to celebrate than a quick trail run with my loyal companion -

Almost hit 100 miles on the way home -

This thing is a blast to drive.... it looks like a 45, it drives like an 80, and has the power and sound of a 200. What more could you want?

Still a lot to do on it. The biggest things on the checklist -

Fiberglass top
AC / heater
Dash controls and levers
Longer bump stops
Seat belts

Today feels like a win though, so I'll take it and enjoy where its currently at.

I get a small adrenaline rush everything time I get a notice that @UZJ40 has posted to this thread. It is seriously entertaining, educational, and inspiring to watch your build. Riley, thanks for taking the time to document and share with us.

Thank you, that really means a lot. There are a few threads out here that I feel the same way about, so its a huge complement to know that mine does that for someone else.

Just incredible! Beautiful work. :cool::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Thank you!! I look forward to my next item I purchased from you guys

Nice job! I had thought about making a jig for the face of it like you did. Definitely a few ways to go about it.

Did you remake those mounts? They look really clean... its so hard to cut them off nicely!
Thanks,

Yes I have all the axle brackets in stock along with 4130 CrMo knuckle balls for the 80.

Cool. You're welcome to use the bushings for the 3rd member if you'd like, but it looks like your jig places it for you.

What build is that for? What drivetrain?
