I have installed new front and rear lights, they work correctly all except for i have no blinkers. Could this be a result of a bad ground, as i have had several so far. Or would it be the Hazard/Blinker switch underneath dash.

Is there a simple way to test the existing switch?

Any help is greatly appreciated

A little more detail about what you mean by "no blinkers", what type of lights you installed and what year cruiser would help.

If you mean that the turn signals light up but don't blink, then this is an indication that they don't use enough power to heat up the bimetal switch in the flasher than makes them blink. This could be due to using the wrong (low power) lights or a bad connection anywhere between the fuse block and ground.

Did you check your blinker fluid level?

What Pinhead said. Cheap aftermarket lights use a bulb without sufficient power to get the flashers going. If they light up "solid" without blinking you can just replace with new bulbs and you'll be all better.

Good luck.

Sorry

Sorry

Its 78 FJ40
Lights are aftermarket purchased from CCOT
Get no blinker at all, doesnt light up at anytime

And yes i checked the fluid it is fine!

Wasn't it in '75 that Toyota switched from fluid to powder? Supposedly longer lasting IIRC...

:D

I'd dig out my handy little tester and see if there's power to the flasher, first.

x2

I bought one and they are great, if you know how to use them...I just wish the instructions were a little more clear on its use...

Do they sell a "Tester for Dummies" book? :D Having one is great but about as useful as dog doo when you don't know how to use it properly :frown:

Even a simple test light should be helpful. My trucks are older than yours, so I can't draw a picture, but anyway, one of the two wires going to the flasher is hot (probably only when the key is switched on). It doesn't do anything, until it is grounded. Get a test light. Ground one end with the alligator clip to the chassis. Stick the pointy end into one or the other of the two leads going to the flasher (disconnect them from the flasher first!). See if the light lights up. It's a start.

I'd add check your test light first on a KNOWN working part. I spent about 30 mins once testing and testing with a test light and driving myself nuts until I finally figured out my test light was bad....

That is when I decided to buy a more advanced tester

Unfortunately, right now it is more 'advanced' than my 1  skills...

I don't know about CCOT repro lights, but stockers have several pieces of metal inside that ground together. If all is not perfect you get some interesting behavior. I had to file the corners of the reflectors where they meet to get mine working perfectly.

Thanks to all for the help, i will try these out tonight and post my victory tomorrow

Thanks for the help

To all who responded to blinker problems - Thank you

They are now working, the light switch had a short in it and the hazard switch did not work at all. All electrical is working properly and I fired her up for the first time today - Awesome.

By this weekend im sure i will have plenty of questions.
Going to try and take the maiden voyage tonight!

Awesome...Make that maiden voyage on over to my house and fix my electrical problems would you? :)

When I signal left all lights blink but when I signal right just the right side blinks. Hazards work fine. I just love electrical gremlins... :o
