Stay the course partner... I'm about to attack some rust myself and I know where it ALL is.:)
Thanks! I'm still convinced the only reason I have not given up and sold my pig is because of the support and inspiration of the people on this forum. That, and the fact that fj55's are the coolest suv's ever made. Sure they are prone to rust and impossible to find parts for but besides that...

All that and we're all flush with money with time on our hands, Right! :)

Finished one of the spring hangers! Which means I actually have a front leaf spring mounted!

In order to make time for the pig I put the kids to bed, kissed the wife and left home at 8:30pm to drive up to the shop. I go two solid hours of work done. Finished the passenger side shackle hanger and tacked it in place.

Made some shock posts to weld to the axel. The FJ60 shocks mounted to the u-bolt plates so those would not work. Here they are tacked.

Worked on the passenger side spring hanger (no pics) and started working on the drivers side shock hoop. Used 1.25 diameter tube with 0.120 wall thickness. Good day!

Napster,

Your picture reminded me of something I'll have to do later. While you're at this stage, weld caps ( top and bottom ) on your steering stops. Beef them up a little, so they don't bend. Those little stops don't hold up to power steering and big tires. Easy enough to do, before paint. Sure looking good! Keep it going.

Ron,
This is why I love you even though I've never met you! I have always said, "if you want to know someone, work with them." I know we have not worked together but I feel like I know you just by reading through your build thread and seeing the quality work that you do. Anyway, sorry to get all sappy but thank you for the tip! I'm on it!

Hey, thanks man! Around the farm I feel like Rodney Dangerfield, even my own Llamas will spit at me, if I'm late with the feed. :) I'm hoping to fix mine on round 2, next year.

Lookin good Napster! Spring mounts look great!
Not sure what size steel you used but might pay to beef up your lower shock mounts?? I had a bolt through a bit if 5mm flat bar on my steering damper mount that I made and it bent pretty badly after the first time I took out.... Donno if the shocks and steer damper exert the same force but the steel on the factory 55 lower shock mount looks to be almost 10mm thick...
Look forward to some more pics!

Questions!
1: Ihave been welding all over the front of this frame and Im concerned with rust inside the frame... and out side... and on the body... and the roof... So how do I clean up the inside of the frame? I know there are ways to spray products and there are products made for this, but my question is, is there something that I should do in order to prepare the inside of the frame? A rusty frame is not an option!

In another "This is whats wrong with the world today" stories, One of my spring pins has disappeared. High school kids will fiddle with anything laying around. So I ordered the greasable ones and a set of spring bushings from Cruiser Outfitters. They are great to work with and everything shipped fast. Not sure if Kurt wants this spread, but the spring bushings are not on their site and they said that they do not normally sell them outside of a lift kit.

Napster,

My frame was sandblasted to start, but while I had it out from under the wagon, sprayed multiply products in it to stop and prevent the rust. Here's two pages of Eastwood's products. http://www.eastwood.com/paints/rust-solutions.html?p=1
I'd hang the frame up one way and spray in every hole, then hang the other way and spray. As a follow up every year spray a product like Fluid Film in the frame.

Maybe try power washing in there, just to get built up crap out, so the products get to metal. Going to be tough to get everywhere with the frame still bolted up. Once you feel you got it clean and dry, maybe some type of rust converter first.

Anything is better than nothing.

Thank you Ron, great info as always. I got the passenger side spring hanger tacked up. Everything seems to line up pretty well...
