Got my Speedhut gauges yesterday from @FJ60Cam, thanks.

The volts is not bottomed out. Was wondering if the new gauge is bad or just stuck. Don’t want to install it and it has an issue.

Can you try to hook up 12V from a battery just to the voltmeter leads with some jumper wires? That would tell you if it's accurate.

I am excited to see what you are boosting at once that part it installed.

Yeah. I hit up Cam yesterday just to see what Speedhut thought.

The Fishery well pump quit working up the Columbia River Gorge. Got it going and they gave me this sweet hoodie with picture of White Sturgeon.

I just spent about 10 hours over the last 2 days drooling over your build. wow man, amazing work and attention to detail. a true inspiration right here folks. nice work!
That’s 2 great compliments in the last 2 weeks. Thanks for enjoying it. I need to get some trail and camping shots soon...

Mounted the dual Maradyne fans this morning. The fan holes didn’t quite match the Champion radiator mounting holes so I had to make them oblong. The bottom of fan shroud makes contact with the radiator but the top has about a half inch gap.

With the fans in I decided I wanted to drive the 60 and see how well they work. Decided to wire only one in to test. Had these insulated male and female butt connectors.

I thought with these it’s easy to have a manual switch setup Incase the controller ever quits. Ran wires into the cab and used the kill switch as a manual fan controller.

Up is off for fan and down is on. Now test drive time.

Took the 60 behind my house for some fun in the woods.

This logging road is on private Weyerhaeuser Timber property but it’s open only due to a remote trailhead up Eagle Creek which is in the National Forest wilderness area. Without this access road there wouldn’t be a trail or public road access.

It’s funny that before I even lived up here we used to wheel up here in high school. My buddy Ben had a 87 FJ60 and I had my 85 Toyota 4Runner. The timber company then really didn’t care if you went Offroad but not anymore... :frown:

After the morning fun decided to run to town and get some more grounding cable. Returned and grounded the Champion Radiator to the frame and ran a #1 gauge ground wire from battery to frame.

Also removed starter bolt and ran a ground from bolt to frame to ground the starter.

Been reading about electrolysis issues with radiators and improper grounding.
Started working on the Derale dual fan controller

The probe screws into the brass bushing into the block. It’s hard wired to the controller. In order to install it I was to cut the wire so I can screw the probe in. Should I phase the wire or does it not matter? If nobody knows I’ll call CPP diesel. Sucks they don’t have a screw in terminal. Also wondering if cutting the wire will effect its accuracy.

The unit has an ignition wire but doesn’t really say what it should go to. Anything that has 12V when the ignition is turned on and motor is running?

You don't want to have car theif putting the wrong fuel in her...lol

On Saturday while running the 60 I watched the water temp gauge closely. Drove to my friend Glen’s house about 5 miles away and temp stayed mid range on the 60 gauge. The thermostat didn’t even open as the radiator was still cold. Drove up to the top of my loop and climbed 500’ in elevation and it ran high but not hot while running a single fan with the manual switch I installed.

Drove on the logging roads just fine with it staying 3/4 up on the gauge. While coming down the grade temp lowered.
Pulled over at a spot and looked for elk about a few minutes leaving the 60 idling. Took off and gauge immediately shot up to hot. Backed off on throttle and it jumped down quick. Was able to get home with no problem. Water temp stayed in the mid range.
I’m thinking I’ve got a thermostat issue. Any thoughts. New Speedhut gauges are coming next.

Starting my rear tire carrier build soon.
