Yeah they really are! Back in the day when I wanted to get my 55 painted the shop that was going to do it literally told me like 6-7 months. This has been like 4 business days. haha.

Dang, they're moving fast!

What's the plans for the headliner after the sunroof delete? My sunroof is welded in as well, but the headliner remains unchanged - I'd love to get the extra headroom back, but don't know the best route to take.

3 options I have found

- Just leave the old liner in
- Order a new sunroofless headliner from Toyota ~$1300
- Custom material which is probably what I will do, likely an alcantara after I put some insulation up, just glue it in.

Sunroof is all closed up, vents are in the hood, massive hole in the bumper for the IC, she rolls into paint Monday. The first bill/invoice almost gave me a heart attack. This is a stupid project.

Stance looks good from that angle! This build is all kinds of awesome!

I'm blaming you for starting this! I just got my rear heavy sway bar in (ordered 3 months ago) and now they are saying mid September for front. What intercooler did you go with? Interested to see how/where you mount and pipe it. Oh did you modify axels at all?

It takes forever and cost twice as much to mod these beasts... but I have had her since 2000 so she deserves the love.

I will be putting the intercooler between the frame rails, extending below and above the bumper behind the grill. I cut a huge hole in the front bumper. It will be a 25" x 10" x 4" vertical flow core. But after this body work I am tapped out. I will have nothing left for cruisers for a while. This ended up being more than twice what I expected.

I say your done, throw some clear coat on that biatch and drive off!

There is a lot of weight savings as it sits. Lol.

I keep telling these guys "I do not need a show quality paint job". Like a tactful way of saying just spray some color on that bitch but he is all worried if it's not perfect and I tell people I had it done at Page Customs that it looks badly on them. I literally had a 25 min discussion with him that perfect is fine but someone has to pay for it and that someone is me, we are at $10k and that is definitely getting into show car territory. He was like we will just roll it into the corner for a couple weeks. I said, you aren't understanding I am not one of your millionaire clients and when we talked about this you were like oh yeah we can fill those holes for $1800, we can do the sunroof for $1500-2000, we can put down paint for $1000, you add those things up and it's $5k not $10k. His response was just, we didn't know how much it would take until we started doing it....

Well then don't give me verbal estimates. Haha. I am not mad but this was supposed to be exterior and interior money now I will come up short on the interior. Fxxxing project cars. Lol

Preface this question with the statement, I don't do body work.

Why the heck was the vehicle primed before the body work was done? Is that prefection or wasteful?
Bummed the budget is getting hacked by expenses that were not accounted for but should have been preventable with some accountability. You're a more patient guy than I am with these vendors, they are chewing away at your budget.

Got burned more than once with a verbal quote. Now I don't have anything done with the price in writing. If they come up with something unforeseen it's on them unless they call me and I come down and sign a change order...just sayin'

So priming before the body work is finished is normal practice. It is called a high fill primer, it allows the shop to spray a coat down and build up and low areas, it really fixes just very very minor flaws without having to use fiberglass, bondo, etc.

So really the holes were filled, the truck was sanded, the truck was primed, the truck was resanded, the little bit of fiberglass was laid down and then sanded again and then the truck will be primed and sanded again, and then the first coats of paint will go on. So I get that it's a lot of work but I was looking more at like the scuff and respray. Lol

Thanks man I appreciate it. It is going to be badass when it's done but the cost is high. Lol. I think I am finally getting old enough to stop being irresponsible. This career change is really effing up my cruiser habit! Haha

Responsibility is overrated! Last year I bought my 80 back from the friend I sold it to. A young guy who had just got his license, he drove it hard and did bugger all maintenance. It was a complete emotional purchase as it was my first 'good' car. Wouldn't trade it for the world and spend waaaaay too much money on it.

Shoulda gone to Maaco  :flipoff2:

Yep! I told them keep fxxxing around and I would just pull the truck and rattle can it, and tell everyone it was from Page Customs. lol.
Now THAT should get their attention!

I have not yet cc'd the bowls but I will since I am going to do a lot of bowl reshaping.

Looks like fun! Did you CC your bowls? Are you doing any bowl work?
