Check out Austin St Onge on youtube. I've seen his posts on FB and apparently he has a good YT channel with a bunch of videos. He put a 6bt in his 80 with a NV4500 and seems to be pushing it pretty hard with 42" tires.

I came to suggest the same videos. Guy is currently on 40s with stock axles and the 6BT. Personally I'd love to have a 1HD-FT over a 6BT, but I can understand the desire to have it, being in New Zealand and the toyota diesel not exactly being rare.

I'd definitely go for the manual option if you are considering it.

Cool. Happen to have pics of the dash? I can't imagine what they do, but it the dash isn't crumbling into potato chips then it means they did a better job than factory.
Yea nah, its a bit rough. The photos don't really show all the black silicon.

The trucks been messed with a fair bit, was originally a petrol and apparently went through 3 of the dodge v8s before they put the cummins in it. And this it the second cummins its had, the first one is in a land cruiser in the south island somewhere apparently.
Cheers

Ha! Impressive, the replica RHD dash is holding up good. That kick panel below the steering wheel is crumbling because is probably the LHD part repurposed.

I've never ready anything with people being super happy with the Cummins in their 80. You see them for sale really soon after the conversion. In all honesty, my hunch is that it ruins a perfectly good vehicle. If you need more power, drop a Holden V8 in there or import a FT or FTE from Japan. You also have the V8 diesel in NZ already. Leave the cummins in the truck and make something special out of it.
