I gotta get into the paint business. Crikey

Glad they like Land Cruisers I might contact them if I decide to repaint. Thanks Ryan

And let me repeat this is an *amazing* build / thread. Please keep it up it's totally gratifying for us and a welcome change from the usual direction. Great work!

Yeah I was kind of blown away by this whole painting experience. I remember years and years ago getting a quote for like $11k to do a frame off paint job on my 55 and thought that was just nuts!

Now maybe 8-9 years later and the shop is telling me body off paint and interior and exterior line-x on that bronco is $25-30k. Hell the paint lady at the distribution center when I was giving her s*** about plain old black being so expensive told me some of the pearls or the ice grey like Audi is using on the S7 is $3000-4000 per gallon!!

I am going to land around $13-14k for this job. I wouldn't do it again, unless this was a Porsche, Supra, muscle car, etc. because it's always going to be a junk 90's SUV in non-enthusiast's minds.

The big problem when I showed up with the truck and my elaborate plan was the shop said they thought I had money. So they threw 2-3 guys at it fulltime and went a little overboard. The reality is I wanted to be somewhere between Maaco and what was done but the shop and I never really talked about expectations. So they had big budget show car in mind and I had a step up from scuff and paint. They said they would have been happy to have done that but they thought I expected the best. lol. It's going to be pretty incredible though.

What kind of paint is it?

I used to work in a shop that painted hot rods, our base price for a single color, with no body work was $1500, then $50 per jam. At the time I thought that was expensive. It looks like you picked high end shop, so they're used to high end "get it done, and it better be perfect" customers.

I would have hand deliver the truck to Moab for $1500 and $50 a jam! Haha.

The paint is just the PPG Global single stage tuxedo black.

I can probably help out with the blinker vent if needed. It would be fabbed aluminum though instead of carbon. but at .063 I think it would stay pretty light.

I just wanna know how much this truck will cost when all is said n done. Looking killer

Less than a 200 series or Jeep SRT8? Haha

Truth be told I learned long ago not to keep a total. You'll never get it back, it won't make you happy and we don't do this to make money. And in the big scheme of things it's still a pretty cheap hobby.

I'm the same way. Wife doesn't believe me when I say I don't know how much I've spent on the truck.

Right and your truck not only has countless dollars it also has a lot of your personal blood sweat and tears, that's hard to put a value on. But when you're able to go out on adventures like you do, it's all worth it. Just don't do like I do and make sure you keep it more about the adventures and less about the truck ;)

Final coats were sprayed and I guess it is time to polish and buff. I didn't make it out to the shop today, but he says he usually takes a week to polish and buff everything out.

So I pulled all the emblems filled the holes, painted over them, etc. except for the Lexus L in the front grill and on the rear deck. The truck originally had the gold package, but finding the gold emblems is tough and they are kind of expensive. Do I take my old emblems and attempting to match the bronze on the wheels and spray paint them, suck it up and buy gold, or use the stock silver knowing there is no silver/chrome anywhere else on the truck. I think the bronze might be too matchy matchy, and that the gold might be kind of cool. Opinions?

Imo stock silver, avoid matchy matchy since so much of the truck will be transformed. you can always change your mind on the emblems without spending $800/gal

Looks great! Always so much to learn from your threads. Inspiring to say the least.

In my experience verbal contracts are binding in Virginia - as are verbal estimates. Proving them is tough unless you have a place where you have documented that kind of stuff ;)

My friends and I have always called it "taste-free gold trim package" since they first started doing it in the 90's. So my vote would be silver badge
