I have not been doing much work on the Frankenstien build, but do have a some updates. I'm one of those that depended on the MUD App and since it went down, I've been struggling with the Internet version. I use my phone 99+% of the time. Anyhow, the cruiser is running, but needs some brake work and the exhaust hooked up. Next stage will be to get the doors painted and then start rebuilding the interior. I've created a bit of a delay as I picked up a 62 last month. Big thanks to Jeff Monroy who lives on the other side of the lake from me as he put my brother on this opportunity. I'm not into 62's, but my brother wants it so I bought it since it was 15 miles from my house. Unfortunately his better half is giving him grief and won't let him take it until he sells his 03 duramax. Since I laid the cash out for this ride, I need to get it running and in his hands. It's an original clean (rust free) 174k 1990 model. Been parked since 2006 due to a kickdown cable issue in the Trans. Hopefully my brother and I can get this going quickly. Back to my build...here are some recent pics with the front end coming together. Well screw it...I can't upload pics via my phone. Sorry for all the duplicates. I'm not too familiar with using my lap top with MUD and obviously can't do this very well. Regardless, you can see some new parts (hood insulator) and tires. Picked up these 10.5 33's at the roundup from a lucky young man that won them in the drawings. Currently have my 12.5's for sale and have a few folks (via Craigslist) that are coming to look at them this week.

Oh yea...the pick of the two stooges is me and my son (@mcguirejohnson) at roundup last weekend. He had a few issues with his 60 and I was fortunate enough to have him loan me one of his Toyo Mechanic shirts so I would not ruin one of mine

I'm with you on the tire size. Really hate to sling rocks down the side of the 60 after the work I put into the paint. Just trying to decide on the front bumper. I have an ARB (stealing off the 62 I got for my brother) or do I go stock?

I've honestly had thoughts of going back to a stock bumper. Heck I've even had thoughts of taking my rig back to stock ride height, tires, etc. Just got my stock wheels back from storage at my Dad's house. I like wheeling, but if a stock 60 can drive to Big Bend and back (of course it can), that's really all I need. Decisions, decisions

I can tell you this... Poppy is an absolute joy to drive in an almost "stock" condition. I love the stockish winch bumper I made up as well.

Klinetime...can you shoot me some pics when you have time of your 60? Want to see how the profile of the 10.5"s look with the ARB. Some angle shots would be great as well. My cell is 713-805-3962. Also, let me know if you have spacers. No rush either. Thanks, Jim

Jason, I do know the feeling. I drove McGuires stock 84 with 29's to round up last weekend. its a beater, but it runs great with 315K and it even held 65MPG on the central TX hills. Really cool feeling rolling in that set up.

Sold the BFG 12.5's and laced up the new shoes. Really like them on the stock rims.

Also did some work on my the 62 that my brother is picking up from me. I'm not a 62 guy, but this was too good of a deal to pass up. Has not run in 10 years and the tank was toast. Spent the weekend cleaning the interior (see it laying on the cruiser) and it came out great. The frame and body are rust free and in great shape. I'm keeping the ARB and putting a stock bumper on it.

The springs and axels have surface rust due to being parked on the dirt for so long, but everything else is rust free.

Just an FYI to all those who follow this thread, my dad won't admit it but I am putting money on the idea of "frankenstein" becoming his rig with a 12h-t pumping under the hood. At least I think the two will go together perfectly

It would look good since the 12H-T is sporting a nice blue paint job. It's looking a bit brighter after washing the dust off. Here's the potential power plant with its own shade of blue.

Another note. I'm giving serious consideration to going with stock bumpers. After putting the stock rims on I think it would really look good with chrome bumpers. Would like some feedback/thoughts on this. Thanks.

decision made...stock bumper is on. Took some manipulating as the rear center section of the frame was tweeked a bit when the previous owner tore off a stock bumper wheeling. I'm pleased with the look. Also, with some help from my son (@mcguirejohnson ) I was able to secure an OEM antenna and 62 manual drivers mirror. Already had a pristine passenger one from a parts rig. Just have to paint the doors so I can put it on. I'm getting closer to finishing the 62 diversion so I can get it out of my shop. I'm ready to get the 60 build back on track. Curious if anyone's ever painted the bumper end caps? If so, what's the best material to use? Thanks.

right...I do like it against the dark blue color. when I build my tan 60, I'm going with black or gray steel wheels. For me I really like how the chrome pops against the blue so I'm going stockish with everything. At least for now. Thanks for the compliment.

Any chance you could list the type of primer & paint and how many coats you did of each? The truck came out great and I'd like to spray mine as well, but I'm a little cautious. Also, where'd you buy the paint?

I am on the road for work and will get the brand of paint when I get back into my shop later this week. I did a 3 step process beginning with an Epoxy coat followed up with a primer surfacer (must sand/flatten out) and then base/clear. Epoxy and primer surfacer used about 2 coats. Lighting in my shop is marginal at best, so some areas required a 3rd. On the base coat it depends on what type of gun used. I sprayed the tub with an old cheapie ($35 gravity fed) gun and it took up to 5 coats to no longer see the primer. My new gun (much more expensive) took a minimum of 2 coats to cover. I believe I documented the gun further back in the thread. With the good gun 2 coats of clear is acceptable but I went 3 minimum since I knew I'd be wet sanding any orange peel. The nicer gun does leave less work post spraying. I can vouch for that. I'm kicking myself for not making that purchase in the beginning. Also, this won't be the last cruiser I paint which makes it worth it. I buy all my supplies at a family owned store (Hoffmans) in San Marcos TX. Thanks. Jim
