The rocker-cover well it just ROCKS:D

Jet Hot coated, you just have to have a little bling don't you:grinpimp:

Bling it is! That looks great , but I gotta ask: Why the expense of Jet Hot vs same color powder coat? I just got a quote from Jet Hot to do a set of Downy headers $220! How much was the cover?

I paid $105Aus for the rocker cover coated inside and out. My headers were around the $190Aus mark if I recall but are smaller than full extractors.(See earlier post for headers)
As for why well you just have to have a little bling:grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp:

Damn, that looks nice. Are you gonna play around with other coatings at all, as in on the piston skirts or valve faces? At the power level you are shooting for you might actually be able to pick up a little power.

Piston will be ceramic coated on the top and Teflon coated on the side.

Why the 2F rocker arm cover instead of the 3FE?

FJ 40's never came with a 3FE and it's nice to have the 2F on top of what will be a 2FE, also their are too many holes in a 3FE rocker cover as I'm using the original PCV valve from the 2F.

Policemen been very clever look at your engine and see it's still a 2F:D like it says on the log book and you know the golden rule if it look's like a 2F and smells like a 2F then it must be a 2F especially if the engine number agrees with it;) might not go like a 2F, what the eye can't see:grinpimp:

Speaking of piston when I dropped the head back in with the new bling rocker cover to the engine builder these had just arrived:bounce2:

Teflon coated skirt is black and they also already have there Ceramic coating on top. Also gas vented to suit the turbo, which expands the top ring on the power stroke to give a better seal still.

The block has been tested and ultrasounded, the cylinder wall thickness is plenty. The minimum was 3mm after the re-bore. not sure how thick they actually are but I'm told we have ample safety margin.

Like everything else on a 40 it was built to last:bounce:

ARP bolts to suit the Jaguar 4.2 con rods are in too. It's like Christmas only better:D

Hey looks great! I love that your turning an F series engine into a truly built motor! Have you made your turbo manifold yet (well i saw that your using the original 3fe manifolds but what about the next pipes leading to your turbo? Keep us updated, especially with the pics!!!

The turbo manifold will be one of the last parts to be made from the headers, this will happen once the new engine is back in the truck, then the fabrication guys can see how much room they have to work with.

The idea for the turbo manifold came from here https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=163559

The one been made will flow a little better as it will be a 2 into 1 at the collector

:D

wow!

if this engine doesn't end up in a magazine somewhere, something is very wrong....

you need to get this in Trails if nothing else!

They are more than welcome to come and test drive it once it's finished:D

I have made the Ozy mag's a few times but then again I do a little freelance Jurno work;) Been published 5 times, 4 in 4WD Monthly and once on the CCDA site on the net though this was a really early attempt. http://ccda.4wd.org.au/cms/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=74

Had my copy-write and moral rights infringed once and an apology printed although no liability was admitted:D in another leading Ozy mag.

Been published is one thing but to be copied was an honor:grinpimp:

True, but when it's the government stealing your photographs ... well, there isn't much you can do.

Niiiiice man, that is friggen awesome. So, these are a custom made set right? How tight can you get the quench with these pistons?

BTW, it might be worthwhile to put a reflective coating on the face of the exhaust valve. It keeps a lot of heat out of the valve and can help prevent detonation caused by the sharp, hot edge of the valve in the chamber. With your turbo it might be wise.

Yes these pistons are custom, the hight of the piston has been set by the length of the Jaguar con rod which is .25"(I'm told) longer than a 2F con rod.
it was cheaper to have 6 custom pistons and 6 Jaguar con rods than 6 off the shelf JE pistons for a 305 S/B and 6 custom con rods. I guess they use the blank for the 305 S/B and machine to suit our needs making it less expensive than 6 completely custom con rods. The Jaguar con rods cost $270 for 6 as apposed to a quoted $3000 for custom:eek: Aus$

The quench I will have to ask as i have no idea:confused:

Detonation should never be an issue with the ECU controlling everything, we will not be pushing for ever ounce of power so that we are getting close to detonation by running the mixture so fine, will always run 98 octane with an octane additive too:D One of the big advantages of using such an ECU as the Wolf V500 is the amount of control we have over the engine right through the rev range with full lap top 3D mapping.

I have a fax with the Pistons tech info but it's very poor and hard to read, I will get a copy and update when I can.
Bore 3.736" 94.89mm
Compression hight 1.636" 44.55mm Very hard to read, to be confirmed.
Weight 453g

The intercooler is away been welded up once it's back it will be pressure tested on the coolant side, before the final outer skin is welded up to seal the air box.

The ends caps with the water feeds are also almost ready for the intercooler cores, just need to drill and tap the end plates for fitting once it's back from the welders
