Tommy, I’m at the same stage with my FT. I’ll just wire brush it and spray some type oil degreaser. I can’t really transport it to a shop and working in our home garage. Once done cleaning I’ll remove the valve cover and oil pan and treat them separately. All iron parts removed from the block will be powder coated. All aluminum parts will be glass blasted. Hopefully it pays up at the end. 😂

This block was very very dirty and is coming to be dismantled for part washing so I figured I give it a go before all in my house garage too
Not sure it’s going to pay maybe soul money 🤣😂

These are my two last ones but can’t paint them as rain been here all week

Most people paint the aluminum parts. I prefer cleaning them and then glass bead with low air pressure to give them the same look as they came out of the factory. Not sure what is better.

Are you putting a new oil pump on the engine?

My first test drive after replacing injector and ré-clamping fuel line roughly 60KM no more problems starting and accelerating now smoke almost gone , Problem was bad hookup of the evaporating line + no fuel breather on the long ranger tank… my hill was easy too no problem 😉

I am delighted 😁

Yesterday went to the shop 1200KM back and forth and drop the 1HZ spare block for assembly and pick up my newly rebuild Trans with tamer terrain 5th gear
I'll be going back to drop the turbo and other items to test on the bench... I might to the swap there before winter... I'll be left with another 1HZ spare block complete transmission... and also HZJ79 T-case...

I’ve been dealing with a persistent issue of cold starting from my truck. After researching extensively and thinking I had fixed the problem, I left the truck sitting for two weeks without running it. When I tried to start it again, the cold start issue was as bad as it was this summer.

I spoke with the guys at the shop and realized it could only be two things: the glow plugs (which had been replaced with new ones) or the preheating unit and glow plug sub-relay. I decided to order a new glow plug relay, but in the meantime, I checked through my electronics box from my old truck, the gold nugget, and found a preheating unit from the HZJ79 model.

I went ahead and installed that unit, and when I started the truck, it cranked about three times before starting smoothly. I’ll check again tomorrow, but I’m confident the issue was related to the glow plug timing. However, I did notice that the glow plug indicator light on the dashboard is now slightly dimmer, though I’m not sure why.”

Hi Tom,

One other thing I noticed with my 1HZ is if I wait another 5-10 seconds after the glow light goes out, then start it - the stumbly idle and smoke is almost completely eliminated. It may make a big difference for you as well. All the best!

DARREN My Man how are you brother! I will definitely test this later today! I went on a hike Saturday it started better ultimately waiting on the relay today or tomorrow but mean time will give an extra 10 sec on report back here!

The installation of the replay revealed that it was not efficient.... I am gona check glow fuse maybe????

Did you try waiting 5-10 seconds after the light goes out?

The glow system on these 1HZ's are pretty simple, since you have already tried 2 separate timers and you replaced the glow plugs, I would go back to basics and start again. Test the glow plug resistance values (yes, even if they are brand new!), check the voltages (can't remember the values, look them up in the FSM), and check grounds again, clean connections, etc.

You WILL find the issue. 😃

I will check the fuse... at the same time will be swapping the engine soon too then again still need to find the problem!

Speaking of swapping engines and such.... double check the ground strap from the engine to the frame. Give me a call if you want and we can discuss.
Will Do Brother! I need to take out the front bumper to remove my winch that has died.... take it at the shop this will be my duty for the week end

I had some spare time this afternoon did a continuity test they came out 100%! Double check the pre-heating box part number and realize it's not the exact same one so went head and purchase the new one... Change all fuse too

Swap those 2 pre heating boxes the light in the dash is full glow now but no real difference on starting.Still takes about 5-7 cranks

I wandering if the solenoid ground could be the issue? Everything clicks but it’s looks like a fuel pump issues will see when swapping

So today, I am missing this component for the tire inflation while keeping my AC

The mounting of our compressor is on the right hand side of that engine.

The cost of the setup is...

1/ EA70 compressor$550
2/ D17 mounting kit $475
3/ receiver S206 $99

I getting a new started as well with the new engine!

That's it for now until I go up North with the Troop maybe in the snow.....

Gold nugget bottom end cracked and cylinder sleeve dead..... Got a new short block
